Another hat I wear is Club Leader for the Lima Lads & Lassies 4-H Club.
I didn’t have a rental this weekend so I was able to attend our end-of-year 4-H Awards Program at Club 10. I joined 4-H with my daughter when she was in 3rd grade and she just turned 27 years old so I’ve been involved with 4-H for a long time!
I really enjoy my time with our club families!!
Before we started the awards program we did a community project activity. The 4-H Parent/Leader Federation will be handing out trinkets at the Trunk or Treat event in Durand so we were attaching 4-H labels on each piece.
I’m so proud of my oldest member, Elizabeth Wayne. She’s been a part of our club since she was a baby because she was coming along to our meetings with her older sisters. She is one of our most active club members!
Alivia and Oakley are starting to shine as some of our newer members.

Dogs, dogs and more dogs…28 dogs to be exact!! Sara Cuthbertson is a returning customer also. She and her family and friends came back to celebrate her puppy-loving little daughter’s 1st birthday!
I did a very simple decor display because I don’t have much for a puppy theme except for stuffed animal dogs thanks to St. Vincent de Paul Society & Thrift Store Durand Wisconsin. Equally thankful to the Durand Community Library for having quite a few books with puppy’s on the cover. Grandma Becky loved that one of the books had a dog named Charlie on the cover because one of Sara’s dogs is named Charlie also. Thank you Sara Cuthbertson for renting my venue again!

I’m so grateful for people that come back to use my venue, Rustic Chic Retreat LLC, for a second time.
Annabel Price chose to return again this year to celebrate her daughter, Wailynn’s, 2nd birthday! Thank you so much for supporting my business!!
Wailynn is such a cutie. Annabel got her the most precious purple dress with wildflowers embroidered on it. So that was the theme of the birthday party…wildflowers with purple accents.
I created all the decorations for Annabel and she did the balloon arch.
I just picked up the purple floral hankies last weekend at the Red Roof antique shop on Hwy 25 towards Nelson.
I purchased the white drape with the flowers hanging from it from Chelsey Harold. She had gotten it off Marketplace to use for a photo backdrop at the bridal shower she hosted at my venue about a month ago. I loved it and she was willing to part with it!!! My lucky day.l!

Here’s the “not so pretty” side of the Rustic Chic Retreat LLC!
I don’t have a rental either day this weekend so I decided to take this opportunity to freshen things up a bit.
I moved all of the furniture out myself except my son helped me with the couch( I couldn’t man-handle that myself)! I swept and REALLY scrubbed the floors Friday night.
Bright and early Saturday morning I re- swept the floors and then gave them a fresh coat of paint. I haven’t painted them since I started this business in October 2021.
I’m prepping things for the Christmas Tour of Homes that I’m organizing for the Durand Improvement Group (DIG) as a fundraiser on December 5th from 9:00-3:00.
Please come tour my venue then walk up and tour my home along with 2 other homes and shop vendors at the Durand City Hall.

Does anyone have any recommendations for chair leg pads? The wooden chair legs scratch the floors. I’ve tried the felt pads but they don’t glide smoothly and they end up getting ripped off. I would love to epoxy the floors but I don’t charge enough in rentals plus buying decorations for parties to cover that expense!!

Masquerade Ball!!! This was the theme for today’s bridal. Thank you to Shawna Stone for renting my venue Rustic Chic Retreat LLC to host a bridal shower for Shari Taylor! Shawna told me her colors would be black and red with silver accents. I took it from there. I was fortunate to find the table centerpiece masks at St. Vincent de Paul Society & Thrift Store Durand Wisconsin months ago!! Then this morning I was out shopping at thrift sales in Mondovi and found the masks that are on the windows, nesting boxes and between the candlesticks. The lady selling them gave me an awesome deal on them and I couldn’t turn them down. I’m not a “black decor” person but I think this color combination is spectacular!!

“She’s Off The Market” was the theme for Sunday’s bridal shower for Tiffani. Thank you to Chelsey Harold for renting my venue, Rustic Chic Retreat LLC, to host a bridal shower for her friend!! I provided all the decorations except the banner. I always tell my guests feel free to move or remove any of my decorations and that they did. The room smelled so wonderful from the beautiful fresh flowers which she picked up at the market at the Durand High School parking lot on Saturday. $10 a bundle!! That’s a great deal!!

It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve had a rental. Thank you to Callie Sandberg for renting my venue to host a baby shower. The theme she chose was “Twinkle Twinkle It’s A Sprinkle” with pink being the primary color. I gladly set up all the decorations for her! A lot of the guests told me that I have a beautiful venue and did a wonderful job with the decorations!! I greatly appreciate those comments!!!

Today 6 years ago my son, Travis, married his high school sweetheart, Danielle!
I gained a daughter and her whole family!!
The wedding was during Covid so not everyone was comfortable joining together but it didn’t stop me!!
The day started out with rain which my Grandma Merker said was good luck on your wedding day. Just shortly before the ceremony the rain stopped and Danielle and Travis were able to get married under the big willow tree just liked Danielle was hoping for.
We had sooo much fun that evening!!! Some of us had a little too much to drink( me and Deder to name of few)!!! The DJ said it was the first time he had guests out on the dance floor ALL NIGHT LONG (I was out there)!!
Travis’s grandma, Myrna, was by now at this time using a wheelchair most of the time but she really wanted to get up and have at least one dance with her husband, Frank. That was so special to see them dancing together. In their early years they used to go dancing all the time!!
This is where my decorating for events started from. Danielle’s mom, Lori, asked me to help out. I kind of took over and created all of the decorations. The side board cabinet I painted white with dusty rose doors and still use in my venue today. I hauled up old doors, windows, screens, wooden boxes and a ton of other stuff!!
I saved it all and reuse when I can for renters of my venue.

Not very often do I have a weekday rental.
Nileen Johnston came to my thrift sale this spring and we got to visiting while she was shopping and I told her about my venue, Rustic Chic Retreat LLC, and gave her a tour of it.
About a month ago she contacted me about a group, the Cool Retired Wisconsin Women, that she is part of and they were looking for a location to hold their September meeting.
She told me that she would be crafting some gnome tea cups to give to the ladies in the group so I decided to decorate with a tea party theme for them. Nileen even gave me a gnome tea cup! In the group of ladies I was surprised to see my husband’s first cousin, Julie Hibbard.
Nileen invited me to join the group for the day but I was babysitting my grandsons so I had to decline. When all my grandsons are in school I will check out joining the group!!
Thank you Nileen for renting my venue for your gathering of friends!!

My grandson, Caden, turned 5 today!! He’s obsessed with Big Foot so of course that was the theme of his party.
This was a real challenge for me to decorate!!! Danielle found all the paper goods on Amazon!!
Travis found out about a Big Foot Festival this summer in Kasson, MN so he took the family there. All of Caden’s souvenirs are on the brown dresser.
My good friends at the Durand Community Library found me Big Foot books to use.
Caden says that Big Foot is hiding out in the woods so that’s what I try to create for him.
After the party Caden convinced Travis to put the costume on and the chase was on!!!
Little Grayson tried the other suit on and came after Caden too.
I have never heard such an excited boy all afternoon!!
