DCMF returns to Duluth August 14-20 for a milestone season celebrating both our fifth anniversary and a landmark birthday for our nation! Journey through the spirit of America with music inspired by ragtime, jazz, and the sweeping landscapes of the American West.

We’re thrilled to welcome new festival artists, violinist Kyu-Young Kim of St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and cellist Davis You of San Francisco Symphony, while welcoming back violinist Wyatt Underhill alongside violist Matt Young and pianist Sayaka Tanikawa.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Michael Tilson Thomas, Music Director Laureate of the San Francisco Symphony. His extraordinary ability to communicate and captivate audiences was unmatched, and his life was an inspiration to many.

DCMF Co-Artistic Director Matt Young has the privilege of having performed under MTT’s baton for thousands of rehearsals and concerts. He reflects: “Michael was an inspiration in my musical life: he welcomed me into an extraordinarily dynamic ensemble, which I’m grateful to still call home. Working under his direction was both challenging and enlightening. He was a great interpreter, entertainer and thinker.”

When Duluth Chamber Music Festival was first conceived five years ago, MTT was delighted to discover its roots in Duluth— the hometown of his early composition teacher, Lawrence Morton. He shared fond memories of his mentor and even extemporaneously made a video for us to both reminisce and help promote DCMF. It was a generous gesture that honored his mentor’s legacy while celebrating the place he believed shaped his teacher’s character and temperament.

We honor MTT’s legacy with gratitude and admiration.
