Race Report May 12, 2026

We didn't think we were going to have a race, as Chester, Jason, Tom and Joe cancelled out, but not wanting to wait another two weeks, the four friends decided to make it work. So, after a delicious cookout of hand-made hamburgers and hot dogs, Debbie, Dewey, Beverly and Steve recruited two 'ghost Racers' to fill the driver line-up and have someone always off to race direct. Plus, none of us would finish LAST!

INDYCAR action kicked off with Dewey charging out front with Beverly and Debbie battling it out not too far behind. We witnessed a surprising lack of track calls, as the open track offered Racers an opportunity to relax and concentrate, and with little interruption to break their rhythm. As Steve rotated into the race, a fight developed between Dewey and Steve at the front, and Beverly began to gain a slight advantage over Debbie. As the race wound down to the final heat, Steve managed the win by the slimmest of margins over Dewey, averaging 27.5 laps per heat to Dewey's 27.2 laps per heat. The Ladies finished even closer, both averaging 26.5 laps per heat, with Beverly capturing her second podium by track position. Fastest race lap on white lane was Steve at 6.30.

NASCAR thunder rocked the park with Dewey's rebuilt ride lapping consistent 4.8's. Steve elected to run the R&D TurboFlex chassis with taller tires and a lower gear ratio- turns out it was bullet fast down the straight but compromised in the slower corners. Debbie's ride had a new set of Coyote silicones, so her event was spent sliding sideways, scrubbing the new rear tires in. Beverly had another strong run with very good lap times, showcasing her improvement by clocking the fasted time on white lane at 4.851. At the finish Dewey demonstrated control with a 3-lap margin over Steve, Beverly with another podium, and Debbie completing the order. Fastest overall race lap on blue lane was Dewey at 4.804.

GREAT racing, GREAT fun, GREAT friendship, and a SHOUTOUT to our two GHOST RACERS, as without them, the evening wouldn't have been as enjoyable. Next event is Tuesday, May 26th with Trans Am and Vintage Prototype Sports Cars. We hope everyone is able to participate, and have a safe and enjoyable two weeks, as well as Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Race report April 28, 2026

With Debbie's welcome return and Jason and Joe's absence, six Racers gathered for Trans Am and Vintage Prototype Sports Cars, for the last event in April- how the time flies! After a tasty Italian sausage sandwich and handmade egg-potato salad by Wonder Woman Bev-it's time to RACE!

The Trans Am race picked right up were it finished two weeks ago with Chester and Steve battling it out at the front. Dewey and wife Debbie had a friendly tussle with Debbie's 20k motor pushing hubby Dewey's 17k motor to its limits, as Beverly and Tom enjoyed spirited drives, this being Tom's first T-A race, shaking down a converted INDYCAR to T-A with a new Parnelli Jones Mustang body. At the finish it was another nail biter as Steve bested Chet averaging 27.2 laps per heat to Chet's 27 laps per heat-WOW that's close! Taking the final podium averaging 25.2 laps per heat was Dewey, over wife Debbie's average of 24.8 laps per heat, with Tom finishing one lap ahead of Beverly, completing the order. Steve set fastest race lap on blue lane at 6.423- breaking his own T-A track record.

Next the exciting Vintage Prototypes challenged the adaptability of the Racers, as they aren't as evenly matched as the Trucks, thus the opportunity for skill and talent to shine and rise to the top. And, as always, the front runners are difficult to sort out, but not so much on this occasion, as it became apparent to this participant, that Dewey, once again emerged as the leader as early as mid-point through. Good battles throughout between all participants, and Tom adapted quickly on his first run with cars he hadn't practiced a lap with! With the transition from light to darkness becoming more comfortable, the laps and time wound down to a battle at the front that resembled a chess match, with Steve on yellow lane, Dewey on white lane, side by side, both waiting for the other to make a mistake, with Steve having to make up a lap for any chance of a win. The deserved victory earned by Dewey resulted 33 laps per heat to Steve's 32.8, and then there was Debbie and Chester matched in average laps per heat at 31.5, Chet taking the place on track position, and Beverly and Tom completed the order. Fastest race lap on yellow lane was Dewey at 5.178, close to breaking his own record, as he now has won all three of the Vintage Prototype Sports Car events plus an additional two wins in the Truck races- making him THE MAN to beat in CHALLENGE races-way to go BRO!

GREAT RACING-GREAT COMPANY-GREAT SPORTSMANSHIP- It's refreshing to race with RACERS that display courtesy, respect and discipline towards each other, and enjoy the spirit of the gathering-THANK YOU! With warmer weather and summer approaching with activities expanding to the outdoors with longer days, Bev and I have decided to pare back the schedule to every other week, probably until early September or possibly October. The next event will be May 12th, with INDYCAR followed by 4" NASCAR and we hope everyone can participate. Have a SAFE and GREAT remainder of the week.

Race report April 21, 2026

Five regulars, with a missing working out of town Debbie and busy Joe, and one newbie gathered for fun and excitement starting with INDYCARs followed by 4" NASCAR thunder. Our guest this evening proved to be no rookie, Tom Ross from Wilmington joined us with enthusiasm and experience racing the past two years up in Philly with Wednesday Night Racers and Great Traditions to mention a few stops he's had along the way. Although lacking in experience with 1/24 scale machinery and wood track surfaces, Tom acquitted and adapted himself very well to the transition.

INDYCAR opened the action and wow what it was from the start with another epic battle in the beginning between Chester and Steve. Steve came in on red lane and equaled Chet's run at 28 laps, but clocked lap times almost a tenth and a half faster, then in the remaining heats, Steve's car developed a vibration, dropping his lap times, and stressing his driving abilities to the limit in an attempt to keep pace with Chet. Meanwhile, Dewey and Jason enjoyed a fun filled comedy battle between themselves, trading places and exchanging bumps and bangs! Bev and Tom ran conservative and lonely races, granting courtesy and sportsmanship to the others. At the finish, Chet claimed victory over Steve, both 113 laps, Dewey delivered the final knockout punch to Jason to seize third, 110 to 109 laps, and Beverly followed by Tom completed the order. Chester set fastest race lap on blue lane at 6.206.

With the return of the 4" NASCARs came lightning-fast speeds, and the reverse order of events from the first race kinda took place as Chet and Steve battled very even in the opening heats, then Steve's car came alive with increasingly smooth speed and forcing Chet on the brink of destroying his controller trigger! Once again, Jason and Dewey waged their battle, with Dewey severely handicapped by a sliced brand-new tire and bent rear axle, and as the two endured their plight, they demonstrated great sportsmanship and comradery, laughing it off on every opportunity! Meanwhile the drive of the night goes to Beverly, who drove her most consistent and disciplined drive to earn her first podium- WAY TO GO BEV! At the finish Steve finished first, Chet Second, BEV THIRD, Dewey, Jason and Tom completing the order. Fastest race lap was Steve on white lane at 4.598.

GREAT RACING, GREAT COMPANY, and as we look forward to next week to Trans Am followed by Vintage Prototype Sports Car Challenge, we hope everyone will join us for FRIENDSHIP, FUN, and RACING! Have a GREAT and SAFE remainder of the week. Oh, and hopefully Debbie can make it next week as the room was WAY TOO QUIET!

Race report April 14, 2026

Seven Racers gathered, as Jason took this week off to celebrate his birthday. Warm weather was just the excuse to fire up the grill and have a hamburger and hot dog cook out- and boy those handmade burgers by Wonder Woman Beverly were fantastic!

First up the Trans Am race and right from the get-go, Steve and Chester battled it out side by side, with either giving the other an opportunity for dominance. Steve got the jump at the start by a mere car length, but Chet hung close not allowing any gap to open up, whilst applying pressure with deep dive bomb braking runs, in an attempt to force an error that Steve never permitted. Meanwhile Jay was very close just waiting for the two ahead to blunder and offer an opening, but his disciplined and competitive drive would only reward his efforts for third place. Joe also ran a steady pace, improving his lap times and position averaging 26 laps per heat (Leaders averaged 27 laps per heat), and placed a fine forth, two laps over Dewey, with Debbie and Beverly completing the order. Fastest race lap was Steve on white lane at 6.499-a new Trans Am lap record.

Next the Vintage Prototype Sports Cars and what a show of competitiveness- this field was bunched up closer than a New York subway at rush hour! Dewey once again demonstrating his mastery of Challenge Racing- now a multiple race winner in TRUCKs and VINTAGE SPORTS CARS. And to my point on how close the finishes are- Dewey 132 laps, Jay, Steve, Joe (another GREAT drive) 131 laps, Debbie 128 laps, Chester 127 laps, and Beverly completing the order. With Debbie on white lane and Steve race directing, he announced her fastest lap of the race at that point at 5.186- only to be eclipsed by her winning hubby on blue lane at 5.162- oh I'm glad I'm not in the car ride home! Just for the record- the Vintage Sports Car lap record belongs to none other than Dewey at 5.104.

Wow-GREAT RACING and next week the rotation finds us with INDYCAR followed by 4" NASCAR, and a bit of cooling off with the weather. Have a GREAT and SAFE week, and we look forward to seeing everyone next Tuesday.

Race report March 31, 2026

The fast and faithful eight gathered together on this warm early spring day and final day of March with much anticipation and enthusiasm for the second Trans Am event and first Vintage Prototype Sports Car Challenge. A little background for our Facebook Followers-Vintage Prototype Sports Cars are re-purposed 30+ year old Flexi2, JK Scorpion, and Trinity chassis powered by equally as dated unbalanced 16D Parma motors not exceeding 30' timing. Tires are Coyote homemade JK .820's trued and coated with flowable silicone for a finished diameter of .830. Gear ratios are all 9-29 and the bodies are all new Lexan, airbrushed and fitted with Evan Design LED head and taillights- after all, endurance racing takes place in the dark, and so will we! As with previous challenge racing format, each car stays in the same lane for the duration of the event, and the drivers rotate round robin, creating an equal opportunity for driving skill to determine the winner. In yellow lane the Ford GT MK4 painted yellow, in blue lane the Porsche 917K painted in blue, in white lane the Chaparral 2F painted in white, and in red lane the Ferrari 512M painted in red. The reserve car is a Lola T-70 painted in blue. Who says this old stuff has to sit on a shelf and collect dust - heck these bad boys are lapping in the low 5's and handle great! Anyway, after another delicious dinner by Beverly (bacon wrapped chicken with potato salad and baked beans) the racing started.

Trans Am action was close and exciting as the Coyote bunch are really warming up to these little beasts. Bev, Jay, Chester and Dewey opened the first heat with Chet stretching out to a comfortable lead. As the rotation evolved it became a three-way fight at the front with Steve surfacing as the leader with Chet in hot pursuit on the same lap, and Jay a little distant in third as the time wounded down. Dewey and Jay battled it out together on the same lap, Jason and Debbie likewise fighting on the same lap, Jason's Cuda went backward in performance from the opening round, and poor Bev just struggled to find her rhythm. At the finish Steve posting 107 laps to Chet's 106, but once again it wasn't a full lap advantage, Jay in third with 104, Dewey followed by Joe both at 102 laps, Jason and Debbie both at 98 laps, and Bev completing the order. Chester set fastest race lap on yellow lane at 6.575.

And then there was NIGHT RACING-YES- two heats with the lights on followed by two heats with the lights off, followed by two heats with the lights back on, and the closing two heats with the LIGHTS OUT! This started out as anybody's race and up for grabs, and like all of the challenge racing, it was unclear in the opening heats who, if anyone carried an advantage. After witnessing Dewey turn a 5.5 on red lane, when I came on as last in, I found that the Ferrari was lifeless and the best lap I could squeeze out of it was a high 5.7, ending my first heat two laps down. But close battles were contested throughout between Chet and I, Chet and Joe, and Dewey, Jay and Jason at the front. But in the end the BEST DRIVER WINS as Dewey took his second challenge victory (won the last one in TRUCKS) one lap over Jay, Jason taking third on the same lap, Steve Forth one lap down, Joe edging Chester on the same lap with Debbie and Beverly completing the order. Dewey set the fastest race lap on white lane at 5.104! WOW- congratulations on a fine drive.

GREAT RACING, GREAT COMPANY and we will return to INDYCAR and the TRUCK Challenge next week. Please consider and let us know your preference if this rotation of classes is what you like, or if you prefer to stick to a same two class repeat format every week- It's about what the participants like not what we prefer- this is your club and we want everyone enthusiastic and satisfied. Have a SAFE and GREAT week.

Race Report March 24, 2026

As the days of March count down and the hopeful demise of winter has arrived, the eight competitors and comrades assembled to race and celebrate the birthday of one of the faithful- Mr. Chester Scott- a very happy and healthy birthday wish to you, my friend. And to celebrate the evening was a GREAT pasta and meatball dinner by Beverly followed by the long-anticipated Trans Am series to open the action followed by the return of 4" Flexi NASCAR rocket ships.

The opening heat found rivals Chet and Steve next to each other in blue and white lane respectively, With Steve gaining a jump with a half a car length going into the donut, but Chet dive-bombed out-braked Steve and drew side by side into the right-hander and bumping Steve into the wall. Jay not happy with the handling of his Camaro still managed good lap times and his driving skill kept him in the hunt. Jason had a slow start, but as the new 20K motor came to life his lap times dropped as his position improved-not bad for a Racer who intended to keep his unfinished Barracuda in the box! Dewey struggled with his Firebird's ill-handling and some un-forced errors, and Joe had a good run in his unfinished Mustang. The Ladies found the new cars a bit challenging, Beverly's Firebird's handling not the best and Debbie coming to grips with a 20K motor for the first time, both still acquitted themselves very well. At the front Steve spent the duration of the race reeling in Chet since their first lap encounter, and with less than 30 seconds on the clock he was on Chet's quarter panel, going into the donut, lapping faster and in position for the win, only to roll in too deep and take himself out- no contact or fault of Chet's. At the finish the birthday boy Chet the winner, Steve second, Jay a well-earned third, and the drive of the evening goes to Jason in forth with Dewey in fifth on the same lap, and Joe, Debbie and Beverly completed the order. Steve set fastest race lap on white lane at 6.602.

The NASCAR race featured lap times close to the Sports Cars and lots of track calls to go with those speeds. Both Joe and Jay struggled with their cars and Jason's primary car failed pre-race inspection, so he used an un-prepared back-up car. Close racing between Beverly, Joe and Jay, all within a lap of each other and finishing fifth, six and seventh in that order, Debbie, despite an OMG moment (check out the video on Facebook) came home forth, with Steve winning by two laps over Chester, with Dewey in third, and Jason the final spot. Fastest race lap on blue lane was Steve with a 4.614.

Next week opens with Trans-Am followed by another series debut with the vintage prototype Sports Car Challenge, running with head and taillights half the race in the darkness of evening! Once again, we would like to express our appreciation for your participation and enthusiasm and support. Have a GREAT and SAFE remainder of the week and we look forward to seeing you next Tuesday.

Race report March 17, 2026

On this cold Saint Patrick Day gathering only six participated. The missing Leprechauns were Jay and Joe, with Scott having suspended his involvement at Coyote Raceway during his carting racing season- GOOD LUCK SCOTT and give 'em HELL, we look forward to you returning after you've finished off your carting competitors! After a delicious homemade chicken and dumpling dinner once again thanks to Beverly, it's off to RACING and having some FUN!

Land Barge action was fast and furious with very few track calls. Dewey's number 31 Pontiac Land Barge was converted to a striking number 13 Firebird Trans Am, therefor he debuted his Junior Johnson Catalina Barge. Having converted Bev's Cat Woman Land Barge Impala into a Trans Am Firebird, Bev took Steve's double zero numbered Galaxie, and Steve wheeled the infrequently used Fireball Ford. Dewey immediately turned some heads and some very good lap limes, coming to grips with the power of a 20K Long Can with great car control- given more experience with this package, expect to see him not just challenging, but running at the front. Beverly turning very good lap times in all four lanes, but like Dewey, lacked track time and racing experience with this particular car. Chester had an off night and struggled on red lane, completing only 24 laps there. Jason managed the best he could with what he had, as his mount was rushed together from an INDYCAR set-up to Land Barge configuration. And Debbie had a steady race with consistent laps completed and lap times. At the finish Steve won completing 103 laps, Chester second at 100 laps, Dewey third on 98 laps, with Debbie, Beverly and Jason completing the order. Steve set fastest race lap on white lane at 6.878 (the record is 6.868).

Truck Thunder Challenge next up with one line-up change. The number 2 F150 that experienced motor problems last week, had a motor swap that proved uncompetitive, so the substitute TRUCK was called into action and proved worthy of a start, setting fastest laps in blue lane with all six drivers! Closer and closer the field gets bunched top to bottom week after week, as Dewey, Jason and Steve emerged as the front runners. But in the end Dewey proved last week's victory was no fluke, as he took the win over Steve 126 laps to 125 for Steve just edging Jason, both on the same lap-but wait there's more- Debbie and Chester in their own feud with Chet taking the position, both he and Debbie at 123 laps, and Bev completing the order on 122 laps. WOW-can it get any closer than this-stay tuned. Fastest race lap and no surprise on blue lane was Dewey at 5.512 (the record is 5.505).

Next week the debut of the Trans Am series, and if any cars aren't painted and numbered, they will be permitted to participate, as everyone is anxious to run these PONIES- second race will be either 4" modern NASCAR (same as Sports Cars just swap bodies) or the Vintage Prototype Sports Car Challenge debut (if we get the fifth car completed and our R&D) CAST YOUR VOTE-yes it's our track but without your support and input it just doesn't happen, so please voice your choice and share your opinions-this is your club and if you're not having FUN, than neither are we. Have a GREAT and SAFE remainder of the week, and we hope to see everyone Tuesday.

Race Report March 10, 2026

On this wonderful weather March Day, the eight regulars gathered together in anticipation of a fun filled and action-packed racing evening. After a great taco Tuesday dinner by Beverly, the racing got underway starting with INDYCAR and capping the evening off with the TRUCK challenge.

First heat in INDYCAR was a banger with Jay, Dewey, Chester and Steve battling it out side by side with no track calls the entire heat! Steve got the jump at the start and somehow managed to hold Chet at bay despite him biting away at Steve's gearbox, with Dewey and Jay in very close pursuit like sharks in bloody waters, just waiting for the two to take each other out. Call to honor all participants as witnessed by the few track calls, great marshalling, including some superb fielding of lost flying wings, and the competitiveness of the field as between the first place and eight place Racers, only a gap of two laps! Steve's margin of victory showed a one lap advantage over Chet, but track position was less than a half of a lap, Jay and Dewey both with strong runs in third and fourth places, Joe, Debbie and Beverly finishing in that order within a lap of each other, and Jason completing the order. Fastest race lap on white lane was Steve with a 6.290 and Wonder Woman Wife Beverly had fastest yellow lane lap at 6.324! Way to go BEV-YES!

TRUCK THUNDER didn't start very well for TRUCK track record holder Jay, as his F150 was visibly down on power in the opening laps of the first heat, as Jason sprinted out front of Beverly and Debbie, Jay's Ford suddenly came out of its slumber and started to lap competitively. As Dewey, Chester, Steve and Joe rotated into the contest, it was as always unclear to whom the front runners might be. Like the INDYCAR race, KUDOS to all as minimum track calls, great marshalling and as close as finish as any with the top three were within several feet of each other. Dewey with his FIRST TRUCK WIN (and well deserved!) over Steve and then Jay- all three on 125 laps, Jason a fine drive to fourth on 124 laps, Followed by Joe, Chester and Debbie- all three with 122 laps, and Beverly completed the order. And it doesn't leave much to the imagination if Jay hadn't had that sluggish Ford to start the race, but fate has its way and it looks like we have our first motor change in the making. Speak of the devil- fastest race lap was on yellow lane at 5.567 by JAY!

Next week we were hoping to start the Trans Am series, but the builds are behind schedule, so we'll do one more poke at Land Barges followed by TRUCK challenge. We didn't forget about the Vintage Prototype Sports Car Challenge and hope to find the time to complete our R&D and fifth backup car, so we can give the TRUCKs a rest. Have a safe and GREAT remainder of the week, and we hope to see everyone next Tuesday.

Steve and Beverly Gerkens

Race Report February 24, 2026

Seven Racers gathered to enjoy and compete first with the final Land Barge event for a while as we convert them into Classic Trans Am cars and then the Truck Challenge to complete the evening.

Land Barge opening heat was a great display of driving skill as all four Racers consistently lapping in the 7.0-7.1 range and finishing within the same lap-great driving and very few track calls. At the finish Chester edged Steve for the win (check out the pic!) Dewey in third and the greatest performance of the evening was Cat Woman Beverly taking fourth. Jay, Debbie and Joe completed the order. Dewey set fastest race lap on yellow lane at 6.952.

The Truck Challenge was typically closely contested throughout the race with very few track calls and no mechanical issues. At the end Steve took the victory two laps over Jay, Dewey in third and two very good drives by Joe in fourth and Beverly in fifth. Chester and Debbie completed the order. Steve set fastest race lap in yellow lane at 5.600.

Great Racing and great company! Next week it’s Truck Challenge and the final race with the Sports Car bodies before we switch them out for NASCAR’s- which race goes first? Cast your ballot and have a great weekend!
