DIM Battles 2013
In conjunction with the Detroit Design Festival (DDF) 2013, DIM Battles will be an event which showcases underground design in Detroit. DIM (Design in Motion) will showcase design by having competitions (battles) in 3 arenas; custom car show, street art and dance. These competitions are open to the public but to compete you must first submit an example of your large scale artwork
and a pic of your ride to be eligible to compete in one of the battles. graffiti/ wheat paste/ etc) will be a live competition for artists to reinterpret their favorite (or most hated) car brands' logo in the medium of street art on a 6' x 8' board that we will supply. Competitors will have 7 hours to complete their work, the competition will run from 12pm till 7pm. Hosted by Heavenly Dogs and Middlecott Design as another Middlecott Sketchbattle Experiment. The winner will come away with bragging rights and a specially designed and locally constructed trophy for the grand prize winner. This contest is free but to be a constant, please read rules and submit an example of your artwork to DIM page: https://www.facebook.com/DIMbattles . You will be required to bring your own materials to complete your artwork. Disclaimer: all artwork produced in the DIM STREET ART SKETCHBATTLE competition belongs to DIM, a subsidiary of Middlecott LLC. DIM will own all rights to re-produce these artworks in any way they see fit. Prints of the artwork will be sold in retail and on-line stores and the artist of that print will be entitled to 30% share of the net profit from only his/her artwork sales. The CUSTOM CAR SHOW BATTLE will comprise of a car showdown where contestants with unusual and customized cars are invited to show off their ride, competing to win bragging rights as well as a prize for the best car. We have a panel of esteemed judges who will choose the winning car (TBD but maybe Bethany Shorb, Kyle Evans, Camilo Pardo, Larry Erickson, etc. ) Judging criteria include uniqueness, wow factor and design intent. Registration entry fee per car is $20 on the door. Disclaimer: A professional photographer will photograph each car for later publication on-line and in print. DIM, a subsidiary of Middlecott LLC, will own all rights to these photos and have all rights to reproduce them in any fashion they see fit. The BBoy Cypher/ breakdance battle will be a break dancing competition to prove who has the illest moves. Winner will receive a special prize. (judges TBA) Entry fee is $5 on the door per dancer. DIM Battles 2013 will be an all-day event from noon till' night. There will be booths from vendors selling locally made goods and food trucks selling a variety of cuisine. We will have a full wet bar for refreshments served throughout the day and evening. We will host an indoors after party from 10PM till early morning. Schedule:
All day event, from 12 afternoon till late. Sketch battle 12 - till 7PM. Judging between 7 - 8. Car battle 12 till 7. Judging at 5 - 7. Dance battle 12 - till 7PM. Judging 12 till 7PM. Winners announced and awards given. - 8PM
