Palmer Park Art Fair celebrates New Orleans, local artists and authors
Beloved local event adds new artist exchange and authors tent
(Detroit, MI May 10, 2019)— The Palmer Park Art Fair will bring a taste of New Orleans to Detroit this year, and also will support more emerging artists from Detroit than ever before on June 1 and 2.
Known for its beautiful setting in a city park and unique community engagement, the Palmer Park Art Fair will introduce guests to visual artists from New Orleans - and some Big Easy music too. The first ever artists exchange brings four New Orleans area artists to Detroit for the fair, where they will connect and sell their work amid 60 professional artists.
The New Orleans artists will share photos of musicians, fashions of The Big Easy, jewelry and metal sculpted fish and birds that look like they belong in the Louisiana bayous, or along Lake Frances, in Palmer Park. They all are part of Arts Market New Orleans, which runs the monthly artist market in a New Orleans park.
“This is a great opportunity for Detroit artists to meet new creatives and get inspired. It's also a wonderful opportunity for Detroit art buyers to collect artists they may never meet otherwise,” said Mark Loeb, event organizer and president of Integrity Shows.
Then in late October, a group of Detroit artists from the Palmer Park Art Fair will head to New Orleans to show work - and connect with the arts community there.
While new features are exciting, attendees at the Palmer Park Art Fair also may rely on the event’s most popular features returning. “This is a boutique art fair, yet in many ways, it’s more complete than most larger art events,” explains Loeb. “In addition to fantastic artists from across the country, we have emerging artists from the Detroit Fine Art Breakfast and talented teen artists from Mint Artists Guild.”
This creates opportunities for 25 emerging artists to connect with art lovers and buyers and provides collectors an opportunity to buy work as the artist commences a creative career. It also allows for a wide variety of price points on original and limited edition art, fashion and functional art.
Each year the Palmer Park Art Fair creates a collectible signed limited edition poster. Last year’s was designated as the “Best Art Fair Poster of the year” - a national honor by Sunshine Artist Magazine. This year’s poster is an abstract painting from Annette Poitau, one of the fair’s most popular artists. Poitau also was one of the artists who helped re-launch the Palmer Park Art Fair in 2014. Only 100 copies of this giclee beauty are created and sold at the fair or ahead of time at palmerparkartfair.com.
Also new to this year’s event is an Authors Tent, which celebrates the art of writing. More than a dozen local writers, from a very diverse backgrounds will be publicly reading and selling their books of poetry, fiction, photography and nonfiction. They include some new and self-published authors and several who have many books to share.
Food trucks, artisan local food from FoodLab Detroit small businesses, acoustic music, hands on art projects and a beer tent featuring Motor City Brewing beers round
out the offerings.
