Juneteenth Festival

Juneteenth Festival LLC is a business founded by Detroit natives to celebrate June 19, 1865 when the last of the slaves were freed in the state of Texas. This is the day that all slaves of African descent became free in the United States. The idea of this celebration is that we were not free until ALL of us were free. We want to honor this day by celebrating and paying homage to how far we have come as a people as well as acknowledging how much work we still have to do. The festival features an opening parade, live music, poetry, children’s fair, food and beverages vendors.
