ICYMI - Detroit's mayoral candidates took the stage at Detroit Moves to talk about transportation, mobility, and infrastructure.

With over one-third of Detroiters lacking safe and reliable transportation, mobility is one of the city’s most urgent challenges—and greatest opportunities. This timely conversation explored how the next mayor plans to tackle transit equity, invest in technology, and unlock a more connected future for every Detroiter.

🚨 : Transforming Public Perception of Mobility, Transit, and Active Transportation

Public perception plays a crucial role in the success and expansion of sustainable mobility options, including public transportation, walking, and cycling. Despite the numerous economic, environmental, and social benefits of non-motorized and transit-based mobility, public skepticism, political resistance, and ingrained car-centric mindsets often pose significant barriers to adoption. This panel will explore effective strategies to shift public opinion, build advocacy, and reshape mobility narratives to create more inclusive, sustainable, and multimodal cities.

Moderator: Vittoria Valenti-Amodeo, Director Program Management GEM and Co-Founder of Detroit Moves

Panelists include: Brittany Simmons from OHM Advisors, Darius Mason from the City of Detroit, and Julia Roberts from the Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan

By highlighting innovative mobility solutions and the pivotal role of nonprofits in the transportation ecosystem, the discussion will focus on how community-driven partnerships are working to bridge transportation gaps and ensure equitable access to affordable, reliable, and safe transportation. This conversation is rooted in understanding the transportation needs of our community and exploring what organizations have done to meet those needs. It emphasizes the importance of partnering with others in the ecosystem—recognizing that it takes the whole village, not just nonprofits, to create lasting change.
