Detroit Lakes Festival of Birds

Detroit Lakes Festival of Birds Migration celebration each Mid-May in Detroit Lakes, MN In a small geographic area, birders may find 275 species of birds. Mid-May birding is spectacular!

Detroit Lakes, Minnesota is located in a transition zone of tallgrass prairie, hardwood and conifer forests and a landscape peppered with wetlands and lakes. Great numbers of woodland warblers may be located right next to a plentiful array of prairie sparrows or vast numbers of shorebirds. Grab your binocs and field guides and join the morning fieldtrips, educational workshops and evening presentations/socials. We'll see You at the Lakes!

What a great morning at Bluestem Prairie and Buffalo River State Park. Bird watchers were able to record 95 species! Highlights included the greater prairie chicken, grasshopper sparrow, sedge wren, black-billed magpie, red-headed woodpecker, and blackburnian warbler. The migration timing has been just right!
