This year I had to cancel the in-person market. But that doesn't mean you still can't support some amazing small local businesses!

Making it as a small business is hard. Throw in a pandemic, and well...

Many of these businesses won't be here unless we decide to support them rather than making the giants even larger. This is true all of the time, but even more now. So much more.

Many people depend on shows like Legit to get their products to you. Many if not all of those shows got cancelled this year. Many struggle to sell online the way they can in person. Struggle to get you to see their social media posts in a sea of content. And struggle to find unique ways to connect with you and share their awesomeness like they do in person.

It's up to us to decide what our community will look like next year and for many years to come. If we don't show up for our local small businesses now, they will not be here. And instead of talking to your friends about where to get those awesome earrings you are rocking, you'll have to tell a story about how once there was this awesome local business...

What is the Legit Local Market?

I'm Aly, the creator and founder of the Legit Local Market + I own Finding Iowa here in Des Moines, a local handmade and vintage business. I used to have a brick and mortar location in Valley Junction but chose to take my business mobile last year in an adorable vintage camper. I also expanded my online presence. It was the best decision I ever made. Although my brick and mortar was very successful, I was always there. Always. My mobile business gives me more freedom and more time to create. Also, I got to hang with my dog all day. It was pretty awesome.

But then there were times that I missed my shop...like Small Business Saturday. That was my day. I loved it when I had my shop. And it was a great day for business. But when I didn't have my shop, I didn't have a place to go for Small Business Saturday.

The first year going mobile I teamed up with Found Things to do a pop up on that day, but with my camper, well, it was COLD. Finding another event the first year on Small Business Saturday was non-existent.
