Congratulations to winning comedian, Luke Gaston, in last night's Joke Box! Luke crushed the game and his stand up set! Definitely a crowd favorite. Mitch Jones was SOOO close it reminded him of his days as best of fest in NY. Mitch is a formidable Joke Box opponent and crushed his stand up set as well. Chet with the surprising -- had to go to the audience to the break the tie for winner -- moment. Clearly Chet was in a David vs Goliath and Goliath situation. Maybe next time, Chet!

Congratulations to trophy-winner, P**p Sock, MD (1,590 points) for being audience big winner of the night! Shout outs to Snacky (2nd place 1,528 points), Mo Zip (3rd place 1,449 points). TIGHT RACE THERE! What a great Joke Box last night! Thank you RAPID City for turning out in the icy cold weather to give us a GREAT, out-of-control audience (in a GREAT way!)! I love it when it feels like we're all just hanging out in someone's house and playing games and doing stand up comedy. That's what this show is all about. Congratulations to Tyler Corbine for being the panel winner last night! Congratulations to JamesAnn for being the audience winner. Thank you Jenna Green, David DeChristopher, and Tyler Mathieson for being such amazing contestants and giving it your all. Thank you Matt Greenwaldt for being hostmaster and Roger at The Catalyst theater for all the help with the set up! Can't wait for tonights show!

Joke Box Legend: Trent Gillaspie
Braving freezing temperatures, a man steps out of the cold and through a door, passing a small sign that reads, “Joke Box Tonight.” The stairs up to the main show are short and easy to overcome.

This will be the last easy challenge he has tonight.

Past the buzzing and bells of free-to-play ’80s arcade games, he arrives at the bar and orders a stiff drink to steady his nerves. Taking his first sip, he turns to face the room for the first time.
He scans the crowd. His gaze stops next to a glass frame of Star Wars collectible figures mounted on the wall… Matt Cobos. “Sh*t,” he thinks. “Matt f*cking Cobos himself is here—and the crowd is going to love him.”

Joke Box is a competition. Comedians battle each other to win hearts based on the audience’s love. And everybody loves Matt f*cking Cobos. If this man weren’t competitive, it wouldn’t bother him. But his DNA competed just to become his DNA—and every fiber of his being is wired the same way. Losing to Matt Cobos is not an option.

No time to grieve. The show is starting.

The first trivia question of the night cements his fears: “Who do you think is going to win Joke Box tonight?” A pool of cell phones light up in Gnarly’s neon theater. Survey complete. Answers locked. Results are in— Matt Cobos wins in a landslide.

“Time for Plan B,” the stranger thinks, setting things in motion without drawing attention to himself.

He plays his best in this gladiator sport for comedians—winning hearts, beating challenges—but drafts behind Matt the entire time. His killer 10-minute set crushes. The audience loves him. But not as much as Matt f*cking Cobos.

The night comes to a close. After a brief tally, the winning comedian of the night is…
drumroll…
Matt Cobos.

The show now switches to the audience winner. Leaderboard results are in. The winning audience member of the night is…
drumroll…
“Not Trent.”

It was the perfect crime.

Trent Gillaspie—without calling attention to himself—secretly played the audience’s game on his phone the entire time while competing as a comedian. Covering his tracks brilliantly under the name “Not Trent,” warding off any suspicion whatsoever.

It worked.

This man, staring into the face of losing, admitted, “No, I’m not Matt Cobos” and gave losing the middle finger and said, “I’m Trent f*cking Gillaspie.”
