The XXI Century International Ballet Competition is an annual dance competition for young and aspiring amateur dancers, is open to all nationalities aged 9 to 26. The competitors compete for Scholarships and cash prizes which will help them continue their dance training. All competitors take a master class then go on to perform their variations. This performance offers an op
portunity for these young dancers to experience performing before a live audience. Scholarships and cash awards are handed out to the best in their categories. The Mission of the XXI Century International Ballet Competition is to help young talented dancers start in their professional careers. Competitor Information:
Rules and Regulations
The competition is open to dance students of all nationalities 9 -26 years old. A participant’s age for XXI Century International Ballet Competition 2015 season is determined strictly as of January 1, 2015. Participants may enter the competition as solo contestants, as part of an ensemble, or both. Participants may enter the competition representing a school or as an independent participant. Professional dancers are not permitted to compete. A professional dancer is defined by XXI Century International Ballet Competition as anyone who is employed as a full-time dancer with a professional dance company on a yearly contract. This includes dancers who are not currently employed under such a contract, but have been in the past.
• XXI Century International Ballet Competition reserves the right to use any photo or video recording of participants’ performances during the competition for promotional purposes. Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will be closed when quota is reached. XXI Century International Ballet Competition has the right to refuse any application at its discretion.
• Participants who wish to perform Pas de Deux from the Classical Repertoire List may perform adagio and coda only. ACCESS TO THE STAGE AND BACKSTAGE
Parents and teachers (maximum 2 persons per candidate) accompanying the candidates will receive a badge to watch certain parts of the competition. The schedule will be posted during the competition in Denver . Filming and photography are only allowed to film makers and photographers officially accredited by the XXI Century International Ballet Competition. Cameras, mobile phones or other filming devices will be confiscated. RE-ENTERING
Candidates who have not won a XXI Century International Ballet Competition prize may participate as many times as their age allows them to. AWARDING OF PRIZES
The jury has the right to award or not to award the prizes , according to the results of the finalists. Evaluation System
The primary focus will be on the candidate’s potential to succeed as a professional ballet dancer. Throughout the competition the jury will evaluate a candidate’s potential as a ballet dancer by considering:
Artistry
Physical suitability
Individuality
Musicality
Technic, control, and coordination. Categories:
Introductory, Ages 9-11
Time Limit: Each solo must not exceed 2:30 minutes. Round I Requirements:
2 Ballet Solos from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire List. Female dancers do not have to perform on pointe, but it is recommended. Preparatory, Ages 12-13
Female Dancers Must Perform All Ballet Solos on Pointe
Time Limit: Each solo must not exceed 3:00 minutes. Round I Requirements:
1 Ballet Solo from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire List.
1 Contemporary Solo choreographed after the year 2007, displaying contemporary elements. (Contemporaries do not have to be on pointe. It is recommended to be in a contemporary and/or modern style to demonstrate the dancer's abilities outside of the classical ballet dance style.) Round II Requirements:
1 Ballet Solo from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire List that was not performed in Round II
Junior, Ages 14-17
Female Dancers Must Perform All Ballet Solos on Pointe
Time Limit: Each solo must not exceed 3:00 minutes. Round I Requirements:
1 Ballet Solo from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire List.
1 Contemporary Solo choreographed after the year 2007 displaying contemporary elements. Round II Requirements:
1 Ballet Solo of the competitor's choice that was not performed in Round I. (Not required to be from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire list).
1 Contemporary Solo (Contemporary Solo from Round I may be repeated in this round). Round III Requirements:
* In this Round dancers must perform two contrasting ballet variations, in order to show their versatility.
1 Ballet Solo from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire List that was not performed in Rounds I or II.
1 Ballet Solo from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire List (Variation from Round I may be repeated). NOTE: Contemporaries do not have to be on pointe. It is recommended to be in a contemporary and/or modern style to demonstrate the dancer's abilities outside of the classical ballet dance style. Senior, Ages 18-26
Female Dancers Must Perform All Ballet Solos on Pointe
Time Limit: Each solo must not exceed 3:00 minutes. Round I Requirements:
1 Ballet Solo from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire List.
1 Contemporary Solo choreographed after the year 2007 displaying contemporary elements. (Not required to be from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire list).
1 Contemporary Solo that was not performed in Round I. Round III Requirements:* In this Round dancers must perform two contrasting ballet variations, in order to show their versatility.
1 Ballet Solo from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Repertoire List that was not performed in Rounds I or II.
1 Ballet Solo from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire List (Variation from Round I may be repeated). Pas de Deux, Ages 14-26
Time Limit: Pas de deux must not exceed 10:00 minutes. Round I Requirements:
1 Classical Pas de Deux (including adagio & coda) from the XXI Century International Ballet Competition Classical Ballet Repertoire List. Note: Dancers in this Category must not exceed a 3 year age difference of his/her partner. Ensemble, Ages 9-26
Time Limit: Must not exceed 6:00 minutes (3 - 8 dancers) or 8:00 minutes (9 - 30 dancers)
Entry:Limit of 3 group entries
Dancers: Minimum of 3 and Maximum of 30 dancers
Round I Requirements:
1 Group Entry of either ballet, neo–classical, modern, character/folklore, jazz, or lyrical. Note: Choreography for the Ensemble Category need not be exclusively ballet. All styles are encouraged and welcome. XXI Century International Ballet Competition Schedule
