Twenty-five years later, we still remember.

We remember the people who left home that morning and never made it back. We remember the families who waited for loved ones who never walked through the door. We remember the firefighters, police officers, first responders, and ordinary Americans who ran toward danger when others were running away.

And we remember how, for a little while, neighbors seemed to hold their neighbors a little closer. Flags hung from front porches. Churches filled their pews. Communities came together. We looked out for one another.

Here in small-town America, we know the value of community, of lending a hand, and of never forgetting those who came before us.

Today, we pause from the busyness of everyday life to remember the lives lost, honor the heroes, and be grateful for the freedoms we still share.

God bless those we lost. God bless those who served. And God bless the United States of America.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Exciting news from the Handy Dandy Railroad! If you havnt done so already, follow their new page to stay up to date with everything they do!!

Engine #9 Restoration Update

After multiple third-party inspections and evaluations of Locomotive #9, a group has been selected to carry out the locomotive’s restoration and return it to operation.
The current scope of work includes, but is not limited to, firebox repairs, retubing the boiler, work on the running gear, renewing the locomotive’s tires, rebuilding the air brake system, and addressing the safety appliances.

Overall, for a locomotive of #9’s age, the engine is in good condition. Both the boiler and running gear have held up well. However, the locomotive has accumulated a significant amount of normal maintenance over the years and has never undergone a major overhaul like the type routinely performed on mainline steam locomotives during the steam era.

The boiler work is already well underway. While we do not have an exact completion date at this time, progress is being made. Work on the running gear will begin in the coming months as the boiler work moves closer to completion.

Restoring a steam locomotive of this age is a major undertaking, and bringing #9 back to the rails will take time, resources, and a tremendous amount of teamwork. Donations of money, tools, materials, parts, and other useful items are all appreciated. Every contribution helps move this project forward.

As we continue this restoration journey, be ready to mark your calendars for the 2027 Denton FarmPark Gala. More details about the 2027 Gala, including the date, theme, tickets, and ways to participate, will be announced soon.

Putting #9 back on the rails will be a large group effort. It is a piece of history worth preserving, and that effort starts with all of us.

Carolina Pickers Antique & Auto Festival
September 17–19, 2026
Gates Open: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Get ready for one of the best antiquing events of the year! The Carolina Pickers Antique & Auto Festival brings hundreds of vendors together for three days of hunting, picking, and discovering one-of-a-kind treasures.

You’ll find a little bit of everything, including miscellaneous antiques, industrial salvage, primitive and barn-find furniture, antique bottles and jars, antique advertising, country and general store items, vintage bicycles, farm and country décor, antique automobiles and parts, and so much more!

The Carolina Pickers organization hosts this event at Denton FarmPark, creating a fun-filled weekend for the entire family.

There's More Than Just Shopping!

Enjoy hundreds of antique vendors, live music, antique automobiles, a live auction with Hathcock Auction, wood carving demonstrations, golf cart rentals, and plenty of food vendors serving up something delicious throughout the weekend.

The Handy Dandy Railroad will be open and giving train rides, so be sure to bring the family and take a ride around the FarmPark!

And you definitely won't want to miss Laramie’s Cakery and her amazing sweets! Stop by for freshly baked goodies and treats that are sure to make your day even better.

Whether you're searching for that perfect antique, looking for a unique barn find, checking out classic cars, enjoying a train ride, or just coming out for a great weekend with the family, there's something for everyone at the Carolina Pickers Antique & Auto Festival!
