Not all legendary boilers are found in mechanical rooms. 🚂

Union Pacific’s famous Big Boy steam locomotive recently visited Philadelphia as part of its cross-country tour celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, making a stop just a few miles from our U.S. headquarters in Lawnside, NJ.

Built to move mountains, Big Boy’s massive boiler measures approximately 23 feet long and nearly 7 feet in diameter. At full throttle, it consumed about 11 tons of coal per hour, producing an estimated 275 million BTUs every hour.

As engineers and boiler enthusiasts, we have a special appreciation for the innovation that has powered generations—whether it’s on the rails or in today’s mechanical rooms. 🇺🇸🔥
