IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
People often judge quickly because they're working with incomplete information. It's easier for the brain to fill in gaps with assumptions than to stay uncertain. Psychologists sometimes link this to things like the negativity bias-we're wired to notice and react to negative signals more strongly than positive ones. It helped with survival, but in modern life it can turn into snap judgments about others.
The "behind the scenes" part matters a lot too.
Most people only see a small slice of someone else's life—like a highlight reel or a single moment
—and then build a full story around it. Without context, it's easy for misunderstandings to grow, kind of like your weeds analogy: unattended assumptions spread fast.
There's also a social element. Judgment can sometimes be a shortcut to feeling certain, or even feeling better about oneself in comparison.
Not always malicious-just human—but it can still be harmful if it goes unchecked.
The flip side is that slowing down—asking "what might I be missing here?"—can interrupt that cycle. Not everyone will do that, but it's one of the few ways to keep those "weeds" from taking over. Always keep in mind that negativity is very contagious, It grows faster than your garden weeds.
Please remember your board members are volunteers who dedicate many hours behind the scenes— planning events, managing finances, coordinating logistics, and handling unexpected issues. Much of this work isn't visible, but it's essential to keeping the club running.
We truly welcome and value members feedback and encourage it, especially when it’s shared thoughtfully and with respect but we ask that it be shared with an understanding of the time and effort that goes into every decision. Before raising concerns, we ask members to keep in mind that board members are volunteers doing their best to serve the club. Constructive input is always welcome; criticism without context is less helpful. If you're passionate about how things are run, we encourage you to get involved. Board service offers a firsthand look at the work required and is a great way to contribute to the club's success.
With that being said, Due to ongoing concerns and negativity we have seen within the club, we will be holding a club meeting to address these issues at The track Thursday, May 7th, 7PM. This will be rain or shine.
We encourage all club members to attend so we can work together towards a more positive and supportive environment.
