Token Creek Chamber Music, under the artistic direction of founders John & Rose Mary Harbison, presents concerts and other cultural events year round in a beautifully restored, charmingly rustic barn. This distinguished series, "one of the most important annual classical musical events in Madison" (The Capital Times), has become known for its unique and imaginative programming, an impressive roste

r of artists, the welcoming beauty of the unique performance space, and a passionate commitment to artistry of the highest integrity. The Festival strives to create an atmosphere that fosters earnest interaction between performers, audience, and the music itself, appreciated equally by those new to chamber music and by connoisseurs who value the intimacy and intensity of the music experience. The beautiful rural setting, with nearby Token Creek meandering through wooded glades and abundant flower gardens, the unique and intimate performance space in the comfortably rustic barn that serves as recital hall, the distinctive programming vision that characterizes the choice of artists and repertoire each year, and the exceptionally high quality of the musicians who perform here - these offer an altogether enchanting, richly rewarding, and quite unforgettable chamber concert experience. The Token Creek Chamber Music Festival was established in 1989.

After eight years, violinist Eleanor Bartsch will play her final concert with the Kontras Quartet on Sunday May 31 at 2:30pm in the Token Creek barn. It is particularly fitting that her farewell recital is in Madison, and that the program concludes with the work chosen for the moment: Schumann's third quartet. The LIPPI PIANO TRIO played to a warmly appreciative audience last Sunday in the barn, offering a thoughtfully proportioned and thoroughly engaging program. Framed by the weight and breadth of Brahms and the extroverted energy of Paul Schoenfield, the concert found a quiet moment in Higdon's "Pale Yellow." Carefully paced and clearly shaped, the Lippis explored the endless resilience of the piano trio medium over epochs, composers, and styles. A well deserved standing ovation for an altogether rich and absorbing afternoon.
