Tyler Perry, the renowned filmmaker, has pledged to build a new home for 93-year-old Josephine Wright, who has been involved in a legal battle with developers over her family's ancestral land.
Wright, a resident of Hilton Head Island, has lived on property that has been in her family since the Civil War.
The dispute began when Bailey Point Investment Group sought to acquire the land for a residential development, and after Wright declined their offer, she faced harassment and a lawsuit claiming her home encroached on the developer’s property.
Moved by her story, Perry reached out to Wright and offered to build her a new, five-bedroom home on her existing land, including a pool.
This act of kindness is part of Perry's ongoing philanthropic efforts, including supporting seniors in Atlanta with property taxes.
Wright's situation has drawn national attention to issues of land preservation and the challenges faced by longstanding communities.
