This! This photo is worth a thousand words!
This is the moment that this years Best of Show was announced and the owners daughter collected the Trophy. The 32 was built in the owners garage at home, alongside his wife and daughter. As many of us know, a full build of any magnitude can be quite the daunting task. He took it head on, handling nearly all task…even those outside of his wheelhouse, just to keep it in house (and knocked it out of the park). I also appreciate the tip-of-the-hat so to speak for those that helped (Mike had one-off Kammer and Kammer valve covers made to give credit to them for such an incredible and special engine build). This being their second time out, it was definitely cool seeing him and his family enjoy the fruit of their labor as folks flocked to check out the Duece. I know I overheard people discussing it numerous times. Back to this in a moment…
I have personally enjoyed the past 4 years of putting Pickhead’s together with Boomer. It certainly takes a ton of work and dedication, but we love the kulture, the community, and of course the cause. When it comes to car shows that are extremely diverse and packed with incredible cars / trucks, we’ve got it pretty good in Dayton. That is fantastic when you’re going to hang out or spectate, but it is extremely difficult to judge. It gets tougher and tougher every year honestly. So back to this photo…
When we judge…we are judging the car/truck. Sometimes the car/truck and the story. When we agree on a list, and we finally depart the round table for me to announce the awards, I’m always pretty confident they’re going to the right cars. Sometimes, in these moments, you realize it also went to the right people.
Sometimes you also get a chance to find out you didn’t give one to the wrong person as well.
Thank you for all the support, the memories, and for your part in making our car scene something truly special.
See you around,
-Danny
