What a thrilling three days at the 2025 Carolina Youth Orchestra Summer Festival! All of the intense work by the students, faculty, and staff was worth it as the festival culminated with today's amazing concert in the Duke Family Performance Hall! Our second day at the 2025 Carolina Youth Orchestra Summer Festival began with a team-building fireside chat with festival director followed by sectionals for our intermediate orchestra and full rehearsal for our advanced orchestra. After lunch, it's back to the grind after a brief group activity. This afternoon, we finish the day with students taking the stage of Tyler-Tallman Hall to perform for their peers.

Day one has wrapped up after hours of full orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, group activities, and ending with a wonderful recital by some of our faculty. Fantastic work by all and we look forward to seeing you again tomorrow morning for some more awesome music!

Day 1 of the 2025 Carolina Youth Orchestra Summer Festival is under way and we are beyond excited to work with these wonderful young musicians! The day started with a group activity followed by the intermediate orchestra breaking out into sectionals while the advanced orchestra rehearsed with Dr. Keith in the Duke Family Performance Hall.

This afternoon at 4pm, the CYOSF Faculty will put on a recital for both orchestras in Tyler-Tallman Hall and the public is welcome to attend. Tickets can be found at https://www.tickettailor.com/events/cyosf for both today's recital and Saturday's 2:30pm Orchestra Concert.

Meet our CYOSF Artistic Faculty!

Adam Booker
Bass
Professor of Double Bass
Appalachian State University

Dr. Adam Booker is Associate Professor of Double Bass at Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music. A seasoned jazz bassist, composer, and proud U.S. Navy veteran, he has performed with ensembles like the Minnesota Orchestra and Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Booker presents internationally on early jazz bass techniques and has released three albums on the Shifting Paradigm Records label. He currently studies with renowned bassist François Rabbath in Paris.

Meet our CYOSF Artistic Faculty!

Stephanie Wilson
Percussion
Principal Timpani
Fayetteville Symphony

Stephanie Wilson, a native of Charlotte, NC, began her music career at age five on piano where she quickly found her interest and passion in music.

Ms. Wilson, principal timpanist with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and percussionist with the Western Piedmont Symphony, is in high demand as a freelance musician in Charlotte and surrounding areas. She is a frequent performer with the Charlotte Symphony, Opera Carolina, the Charlotte Master Chorale, Opera Wilmington, and many local ensembles.

In addition to performing, she keeps a full percussion studio of students who uphold her high standards of practice and play—many of whom often participate in All-District and All-State honors bands as well as local honors bands and orchestras.
