“That’s just politics...what does that have to do with us?” is one of the most chilling lines in an American musical. Set in
a nightclub in 1930s Berlin, as the Nazi party begins to rise to power, CABARET juxtaposes the decadent cabaret life of the time with the chilling changes in society. This Tony award- winning musical manages to be both an elaborate dazzler and a sober exploration of how hatred and bigotry can lead a society, almost unthinkingly, toward disaster. Steve Martin's Picasso at the Lapine Agile
Friday, Saturday, Oct. 6–7, 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 8, 3 p.m.
Comedian Steve Martin is clever and crowd-pleasing and so is his writing in this absurdist comedy hit. Paris, 1904 at the Lapin Agile, beloved watering hole to struggling artists and would-be geniuses, welcomes two soon-to-be legends for one extraordinary night. Pablo Picasso and Albert Einstein, whose egos are as big as their intellects, spar with the regulars and each other about art, science, inspiration, love and the promise of the 20th century. Throw into this mix a mysterious visitor with blue suede shoes, and you’re in for a brilliant and witty evening. (adult content) www.sau.edu/galvin/
Tickets
$13 adults, $11 alumni/senior citizen/faculty/staff,
$9 non-SAU students, $8 groups of 10 or more,
