We’re thrilled to announce that Virginia Nelson, a talented artist from Birmingham, AL, will be the featured artist at this year’s Jubilee Festival in Lott Park, Olde Towne Daphne, on Saturday and Sunday, October 17–18, 2026.
Virginia’s artistic journey began in her childhood home in Birmingham, where she was introduced to painting by her mother. After earning a BFA in Graphic Design from Auburn University, she returned to her true passion—painting—and made it her full-time pursuit in 2020.
Much of Virginia’s work is inspired by the Southern landscape, especially the Gulf Coast, where she spent countless hours growing up. The coast’s wildlife, waterways, and ever-changing colors deeply influence her art, from wading birds and marine life to abstract interpretations of marshes and coastal ecosystems. Her paintings celebrate the beauty and character of the natural world, inviting viewers to connect with the subject on a personal level.
Working primarily with acrylics and palette knives, Virginia creates layered textures and custom-mixed colors that bring depth, movement, and emotion to each piece. Whether her work leans toward abstraction or realism, her goal is simple: to spark joy and evoke a sense of place.
Artist’s Words:
“I have always been inspired and drawn to coastal art. Then I was working on a big shrimp painting and felt it needed something else. That is when I invented my coastal cowboys that you see in this painting!”
