It's officially spooky season everyone -- our favorite time of year! We're sharing an update from the Halloween in the Old West End Lanternfest volunteer committee: As 2024 will be a planning year for HOWEL, there will be no festival held this year. However! We’re excited to RETURN spookier and more fang-tastic than ever on 10/25/2025 as an independent nonprofit organization, and if you are interested in getting involved, please contact [email protected]!

We also want to celebrate the legacy of David Worrell, a cherished member of our HOWEL team. David's passing earlier this year left an unforgettable mark on HOWEL. His passion and dedication for HOWEL was unmatched. We deeply appreciate your understanding and support as we regroup and celebrate David’s remarkable impact and legacy.

HOWEL (Halloween in the Old West End Lanternfest) FAQ for tomorrow, Saturday the 28th!

🎃Address: 975 Main St. Danville VA
🎃Hours: 2PM - 8:30PM
🎃Parking: Free festival parking in the Wednesday Club lot (1002 Main St.) and also in the lot of First Baptist Church (871 Main Street). Both only a block away!
🎃Entry: Enter at gate with Welcome Desk facing Main St. - free entry!
🎃Many of our vendors take cards, but try to bring some cash for those who don't! There are many free activities as well!
🎃We will be selling merch - limited quantities!
🎃Alcohol sales are available on site, do not bring any outside alcoholic beverages into the festival (See full Terms & Conditions: https://bit.ly/3sDbddx)
🎃Many of our events have wonderful PRIZES! Please inquire at the Welcome Desk if you're interested in participating in the costume contests (kids 12 and under, youth 13-17, and adult), nonprofit alley passort, etc.
🎃Costume contests are held in the first portion of our event starting at 3:30PM, so get here early to participate! Nonprofit Alley Passport entries are due to the staff at the Welcome Desk by 4PM.
🎃Trick-or-Treating is available in the Nonprofit Alley (~2-5PM or until the candy runs out!) 🍬 We recommend that you bring a bag or bucket for each child to collect candy in!
🎃Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets to sit on the lawn to enjoy the live music
🎃Be aware of uneven terrain on the grass and cobblestone paths as you enjoy the festival.
🎃Lantern lighting ceremony will occur at dusk directly before the fire dancing performance (estimate: 7PM)
🎃Restrooms and hand washing stations are available onsite (including ADA accessible)
🎃A day of event schedule was posted earlier on our page - please refer to it for band times and the timing of other events throughout the festival!

We'll be serving up some witches brews at HOWEL! - Halloween in the Old West End Lanternfest 2023 from 2 Witches Winery & Brewing Co.! 🍻 We encourage folks to continue the good times after HOWEL concludes at 8:30PM and dance the night away at their 10th annual Halloween Brew-Ha-Ha!
Drink tickets will be available at our merch and sales tent 🎪
