This year’s $1,000 Trout Tag winner is 9-year-old Carter Sproles from Southwest Virginia.

Carter showed up with his arm in a cast from baseball, ready to give Trout Days everything he had, and reeled in FIVE tagged trout.

And one of them… was the BIG cash prize.

Y’all showed up ready. And the best part? We’re just getting warmed up.

You’ve still got all day Saturday and through Sunday at noon to get in on the action, and you can still register for the fishing tournament until noon Saturday, April 11.

Y’all, it’s Trout Days! 🎉🙌

Here’s the nitty gritty details you’ll want to know:

Check-in is at The Speckled Trout Annex (across from the Appalachian Heritage Distillery & Brewery), 106 West Laurel Avenue Friday 5-8pm or Saturday 7am-12pm to pick up your registration information and wristband. Once you’ve received your wristband at check-in, you can fish until dusk.

Just a quick note for wayfinding - The Speckled Trout Annex is currently sharing the space with Bad Bagel’s Pet Emporium 🐾 while their permanent location is being built out.

🎣A current Virginia freshwater fishing license is required, and state regulations apply for the Damascus Trout Days fishing tournament. In addition, Trout Days is limited to single hook, artificial lures only, no PowerBait or bait of any kind.

Join the fun on Saturday, April 11 from 12 to 4pm - Vendors, casting contest, fly-tying tips, family-friendly games, and a scavenger hunt through downtown Damascus. Free & open to everyone.

🗓️ Full Weekend Lineup: From first cast to final awards, it’s going to be a great few days. The entire town of Damascus is getting ready for you - from our restaurants & local shops to all the added entertainment throughout the weekend.

Check-in at The Speckled Trout Annex, 106 W Laurel Ave.
Pick up your registration packet and wristband at the sign-in tables.
Raffle tickets and t-shirts available for purchase during check-in.
On-site registrations welcome.

Raffle tickets and t-shirts available for purchase during check-in.
-7am-4pm –Turn in fish tags at The Speckled Trout Annex to qualify for the trout tag lottery prizes awarded on Sunday.

Cool mornings, sunny days, and perfect spring conditions on the water with prime early morning and evening bites expected! 🎣👍

Good thing you can fish 5pm till dusk Friday (once you get your wristband at check-in), dawn till dusk Saturday, & dawn till noon on Sunday when the tournament ends.

Bright sun mid-day can make trout a little more cautious, so this will be the perfect time to take a break Saturday & make your way to the Fishing Festival from 12 to 4pm. 😉

Due to trout union regulations, all fish will now be taking a mandatory break Saturday 12 to 4pm.

During this time:
• No biting
• No swimming near hooks
• Strict relaxation only

We ask all anglers to respect their boundaries. Thank you for your cooperation.
