Ronald Reagan once said: "The United States and the freedom for which it stands, the freedom for which they died, must endure and prosper. Their lives remind us that freedom is not bought cheaply. It has a cost; it imposes a burden. And just as they whom we commemorate were willing to sacrifice, so too must we—in a less final, less heroic way—be willing to give of ourselves."
As we enjoy the freedoms and privileges of this nation that were paid for by those that served before us, it is our obligation not only to recognize and appreciate their service, but also to make sure that those who have made the ultimate sacrifice did not do so in vain, that we treasure and protect our religious and other freedoms as they did before us. I believe they would want us to continue that work.
The Damascus Freedom 5K proudly supports organizations that combine to support our troops while deployed (The USO), those who require additional medical care (Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans), their families (Fisher House), those who need assistance (Hero Dogs) and the National Vietnam War Museum that preserves the memory of their sacrifice.
I hope you will join us at the Damascus Freedom 5K on 9/12/26 as we remember 9/11 and give back to those that serve(d).
Race proceeds to benefit great organizations that together support the troops in the field, their families while deployed and those who return home wounded or disabled.
