Historical note from yesterday June 20th

Today is the anniversary of the second and last day of recording for Robert Johnson in 1937 at 508 Park. It’s been an amazing experience over the last decade walking in the light of the music history that was made at 508 Park. The project to bring the building and its history back to life has benefited many nonprofits that were interested in engaging with that history. I am looking forward to see what happens in the new decade.

508 Park is featured this month (Feb, page 62) for offering tours of the project today for Black history month. We put an emphasis on the African American musicians that recorded at 508 Park in the 1930s for producer Don Law of Brunswick Record Corporation. These included: Robert Johnson, Black Boy Shine, Dusky Dailey, Kitty Gray and her Wampus Cats, Buddy Woods, Carl Davis & The Dallas Jamboree Band, Grace & Curly Gray and Willie Reed.

Here is our one Cajun gentleman that recorded at 508 Park which is being restored as part of Encore Park Dallas. The year was 1935 which means it was recorded in the 3rd floor record warehouse, not the "makeshift studio" room that was constructed for the 1937 recording session. Posting this in particular for Mr. Charley Crockett. Thanks to Cary Ginell of http://originjazz.com for creating the sound file.

Sound file was done by Cary Ginell.
