So What Music Festival a music festival SO WHAT?! Music Festival was originally established in 2008 and called SOUTH BY SO WHAT?! MUSIC FESTIVAL.

It was established as an opportunity for Dallas residents to catch 50+ of the bands headed to SXSW for one low ticket price. The event is a mix of many genres including Metal, Rock, Pop, Indie Rock, Hip-Hop, and Electronic. Artists in the past have included Asking Alexandria, The Early November, Motion City Soundtrack, Mod Sun, Outtasight, G-Eazy, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Pierce The Veil, Hellogoo

There’s a “2016 was 10 years ago” trend going around and it reminded me that in 2016 I got to reunite my favorite band. I had waited years to book Underoath on the festival and when it finally happened it was the beginning of a new chapter for them. Such a special moment, I couldn’t wait to see it.

But I didn’t get to see it.

Here’s a fun story…

UNDEROATH wanted back stage locked down and this super dark set. It woulda been SUPER distracting for bands to have flashlights and be loading out.

But one band, that I will not name because I love them so much, had a tour manager who truly didn’t give a f**k and was gonna try to load out anyway.

UNDEROATH takes the stage. We pop bottles of champagne, it was a flawless weekend, no issues… and then the radios go off.

“Mike we need you at the stage immediately _______ is down here in handcuffs and there was an altercation”

Hahah you guys are funny… this can’t be real.

But it was.

And I spent Underoath’s set in a tiny locker room with the Grand Prairie police convincing them not to take this man to jail lol.

After their set, Underoath gave me a bunch of merch and invited me to their San Antonio show so I could see the set.

We’ve all been super close since then and I even manage Slo/tide, Spencer’s other band, but man… what a night.

I’ll be honest I got a little angry and talked some s**t too and was convinced I would end up in jail too, but at the end of the day, I was the one paying the police and nobody went to jail.

The end.

Anyway… here’s some of my favorite photos of the set I missed and some other friends that played that weekend.

Working hard to bring this festival back in the future, hopefully one day.

💫 ICYMI - We announced a brand new mini-fest taking place this upcoming March at called featuring .214 and many more.

Phase 1 was announced earlier this week and tickets go on sale later today, but you can get early access with the code GAZED.
