Since bringing Ahsan to the states, I have started communicating with another family in Pakistan whose child also has HoFH . With Hassan's blessing, I am sharing Basit's story with you. Basit is 13 years old and also has HoFH (just MUCH more severe) . We just launched a GoFundMe page hoping to raise funds for airfare and medications for Basit. Whew, it has been quite some time since we posted an update! Life has been moving at a rush. There have been changes on all fronts. First Ahsan's LDL has reached an all time low of 119! He is out of danger for the time being. Of course he eventually needs an LDL below 70 but as an 8 year old he can stay at 119 for quite some time without any cause for worry!

We are still working on a diagnosis for Ismail. What we know is this....he suffers from some sort of neurological disorder. He lacks reflexes in his knees, elbows etc. And all of his muscles are extremely weak and underdeveloped. The doctors suspect some form of genetic disorder. Despite this diagnosis, there are some glimmers of hope and encouragement. He has had a battery of tests, and it appears the neurological disorder and muscle weakness has not affected his heart. He is undergoing physical therapy to help with his motor skills which are greatly delayed. Despite his weak motor skills this kiddo is EXTREMELY intelligent. He just has difficulty speaking and as such struggles with getting his "voice" heard.

The family has been granted United States work permits but are still waiting for their social security numbers. In addition they are waiting to hear if their immigration will be granted.

August 2022 Update: Ahsan is doing terrific! We were able to add an infusion to his list of medications and last week we discovered his LDL has dropped to an all time low of 202!!! While we still need to get it under 100 (70 is the goal) 202 is a wonderful start considering when they arrived last year his LDL was 650! Progress is being made! Thank you to all of you praying for Ahsan and for the financial support you have given and continue to give.

Ismail is also progressing nicely. He can run now, and is learning to jump. (he was 4 in July) His speech has improved from only speaking four words last July to 2-3 word sentences now. And, while he is very difficult to understand, his language is improving. He is in speech therapy along with physical therapy on a weekly basis.

Hassan and family applied for immigration earlier this year. Still no word from immigration. Praying this family is able to stay in the states. Ahsan's life depends on it. Literally.

Until Hassan is grated permission to work, he is completely dependent on the generosity of people like you to pay for living expenses. We are SO thankful for all of you!
