We hope you can join us for "Rhythms of the Terroir: Cycles From Our Earth" in collaboration with Hallockville Museum Farm.

When you pair an Italian vocalist and an Italian horn player with a Brazilian rhythm section, the result is something as magical as it is worldly. Band leader Olivia Foschi was inspired by the natural cycles of life. She has combined repertoire that expresses the idea of seasonal and daily cycles through enchanting melodies and varying rhythmic cycles and patterns.

This concert will transport listeners through the diverse geographical territories represented in the band, weaving together traditional Italian folk music from the early 1900s composed by Cesare Martuzzi, contemporary Brazilian compositions by Toninho Horta and Djavan, and touching upon music from or about New York. This music incorporates the ancient art of South Indian Carnatic vocal percussion known as konnakol. You can expect to hear a blend of world music and rhythms that will leave you feeling culturally enriched and more connected to the Earth. This concert will take place in the Naugles Barn at Hallockville. More info here: https://www.ritesmusic.org/cycles-from-our-earth-date-november-14-2025.html

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Energía Internacional, our new initiative centered around community engagement and cultural exchange. The weekend featured performances by guitarist Gabriele Leite and percussionist Renan Proença at the North Fork Flower Farm, the Toomai String Quintet at North Fork Arts Center, and a percussion ensemble led by Eduardo Leandro at Mitchell Park.

We are excited to continue this project through Kinetic Canvas, an interdisciplinary residency-collaboration with students, artists, and teachers at Greenport Schools led by Paolo Bartolani and Light Painting Artist Alina Wilczynski. Kinetic Canvas allows students to explore their creativity through artistic expression exploring topics including our relationship to nature, what makes a healthy community, immersive listening, and much more. We are excited for continued collaboration and growth through this initiative and more projects involving our vibrant community.

“Folklife treats old field recordings not as time capsules, but as heirloom seeds passed down from a bygone generation. Planting these sturdy seeds in modern soil, this versatile gathering of musicians has cultivated vibrant Sea Island spirituals, Creole calypsos and stomp-down Appalachian dance tunes for contemporary audiences. They also explore Stone’s diverse catalog with entrancing indie-pop originals and songs from East and West Africa. Folklife’s concerts and educational programs are moving and participatory experiences that prove folk songs are indeed perennials for the people.”

Featuring:
Jayme Stone (banjo, voice, guitar)
Christina Courtin (voice, violin)
Ilan Blank (guitar, voice)
Nate Sabat (bass, voice)
