Mountain Heritage Days Always the last Saturday in September.

An annual festival celebrating our rich southern Appalachian heritage and culture nestled in the mountains of western North Carolina on the campus of Western Carolina University! Mountain Heritage Day is a not-for-profit, one-day FREE festival where approximately 20,000 visitors descend onto the Western Carolina University campus to enjoy multiple stages of live entertainment, over 130 juried arts and crafts, non-profit and food vendors and tons of family friendly activities to celebrate Appalachian mountain culture.

What a week! Thank you to everyone who joined us for Mountain Heritage Days 2026. Whether you came for the music, the crafts, the food, the demonstrations, or simply to spend time with family and friends, you helped make this year's celebration special.

Mountain Heritage Days is a reminder that our traditions are strongest when shared, and we're honored to continue this cherished tradition with all of you. Thank you for celebrating with us, and we'll see you next year!

What a great evening at Pickin’ in the Park! Thank you to everyone who joined us on Friday night for an unforgettable celebration of mountain music, community, and tradition as part of Mountain Heritage Days. From the incredible performances to the beautiful mountain backdrop, it was a night to remember. We’re grateful to all who helped make this event such a success!

This Saturday, September 26, discover the Mountain Heritage Festival at Western Carolina University in Sylva, North Carolina. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., meet a variety of food and craft vendors, listen and dance to live bluegrass and Americana music, and hear short stories and recipes tied to families of the Appalachian region.
