Today is Gold Star Mothers and Families Day. Please join WDVA as we give solemn remembrance for our nation's service members, and their families, who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending our nation.

On June 23, 1936, the 74th United States Congress designated the last Sunday of September as Gold Star Mother’s Day. The day has since been appropriately updated to honor their families as well.

THE BATTLE BUDDY TREE IS COMING BACK!

Last year, our Battle Buddy Tree was a huge success, with our community coming together to donate more than $10,000 in needed items and support for Veterans.

We’re getting ready to do it again for 2026.

Here’s how it works:

Our Christmas tree will be covered with tags, and each tag lists a specific item that is needed to help Veterans in our community.

See a tag for something you’d like to donate?

Take the tag. Buy the item. Bring it back to the Post.

It’s that simple.

There are no assigned Veterans and no complicated sign-up.

Just pick a tag and help.

Every item donated helps us make sure Veterans who need a little extra support know that their community hasn’t forgotten them.

Last year you showed us what a community can do.

Now we’re getting ready to fill the tree again.

Take a tag. Buy the item. Bring it back.

Because we’ve got our Veterans’ backs.

More details coming soon.
