Race for Lace 5K

Race for Lace 5K The Race for Lace 5k, located in Northwest Florida, has become one of the largest fundraisers for cys Main Street.

Our goal is to raise money to help fund research for children and adults who have cystic fibrosis, a hereditary disorder that affects the execretory glands by producing thick mucous. Just 20 years ago, the life expectancy for a patient with cystic fibrosis was only in the early to mid childhood years, but through the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and fundraisers like the Race for Lace and Great Strid

es, research has now raised the life expectancy to age forty. The 6th Annual Race for Lace 5K will be held this year on November 14, 2015 @ 9:00 am in Downtown Crestview, Florida at Main Street Medical Center, 369 N. All proceeds go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. As a 100% nonprofit race, we rely heavily on sponsors, and product donations. We raised $65k that year. We had a huge crowd. We had so much support.

Fast forward 12 years & Cystic Fibrosis is a disease with a treatment and not a death sentence. All thanks to the Parents, Families and Friends of children diagnosed with Cystoc Fibrosis. They fought for a cure, developed their own foundation and discovered their own medications - just from grass roots fundraising.

When Race for Lace 5k was born, the life expectancy for CF kids was only early 20’s…in that short 15 years, these children are now healthy & living normal lives with a normal life expectancy.

2026 is our year to give thanks! A huge shout out and bring back for all those who helped us all those years!

Pictured: Families gather at the starting line during Saturday's Great Strides Race for Lace in Downtown Crestview. (Editor's note: When I first read the report that appears in tomorrow's edition, I asked reporter Matthew Brown, "So they raised $65,000, not $6,500?" I asked twice, and he said yes twice. That is a BIG deal for a local event just in its fourth year! Hats off to the event organizers and all who participated.)

🚨For the first time EVER…

60% of people living with cystic fibrosis are adults.

This milestone is nothing short of historic — a reflection of groundbreaking treatments, dedicated researchers, tireless advocates, and you — our CF community.

What was once a childhood disease is now a lifelong journey — and we’re fighting to ensure that every person with CF has the opportunity to live a long, fulfilling life.

Together, we’re transforming what it means to live with CF. 💙

We have received many questions about the 2016 Race for Lace date and have waited to make the formal announcement. Sadly, we will not be having a race in the 2016 season. We know everyone looks forward to our event, but we also feel strongly about giving you the best race possible in the Crestview/North Okaloosa area! We have outgrown our current location, but we hope to see you all in the 2017 season with a new route & new venue somewhere in North Okaloosa County! Keep checking back for more information over the coming months!
