Thank you from the Barrett Scarecrow Race
Ed and I are sadly announcing that we will no longer be organizing the Barrett Scarecrow 5K Race and Children’s Fun Run. Since we started with the race so much has changed in our lives, the community, and the world. We are truly sad about it and every now and then we get the urge and think just maybe we should put it together just one more time but it just not feasible for us to continue. We will miss it, as we know many of you will too.
Jean Williams and Gretchen Callie Reisenwitz started the race in 2000 as part of the Barrett Township Safety Day. In 2005, Jean turned the race over to Ed and me. That first year I was terrified but it turned out great and we kept it going until 2019. There were so many fun parts of the race that we loved; deciding on a great shirt design, the medals, converting our house to race central weeks ahead of time, trying to load up our cars the night before with everything needed for the big day, setting up in the morning, watching the sunrise over the pond at Weiler, blowing the air horn to get the race started, watching the kids run so fast incredibly fast for the Children’s Fun Run and cheering in that last walker. What a race it has been.
Over the years, we have had many great sponsors, there are too many to list here but we are thankful for each of them. The race was always on the beautiful grounds of Weiler Corporation who have been amazing to work with and who generously allowed us to utilize their property and facility. Many people supported the race by volunteering their time, they all exemplified a great community spirit and we thank them one more time. Through donations from the race The Breast Cancer 3-Day, The Leukemia Lymphoma Society and more recently Alex’s Lemonade Stand have all benefited from the race, each charity holding a special place in our hearts.
Thank you to everyone that participated, sponsored or supported the race in any way. We appreciate you!
Warm Regards, Kari & Ed
