Learn to cook mussels from the best chefs in the Pacific Northwest in free chef demonstrations at Penn Cove Musselfest. You also won’t want to miss the second annual Mussel Tussle! See chefs go mussel to mussel with this friendly competition. Seven judges from the audience will be selected to determine who made the best mussels. All audience members will get a sample of each Chef’s Mussels 🥣

It’s Mussel Monday! 🧠 Tasty as Penn Cove Mussels may be, their beards are not good eats! Mussels must be debearded before eating. But just what is a mussel beard?

Mussel beards are also called byssal threads! Byssal threads are made of proteins and can be incredibly strong, allowing mussels to anchor to all kinds of surfaces 💪

All aboard for an exciting adventure at Penn Cove Musselfest! Get ready to explore the fascinating world of mussel farming on these unique 45-minute boat tours of the Penn Cove Shellfish mussel beds. Saturday, March 7th and Sunday, March 8th ⚓️🛥️🧜‍♀️

ALL AGES MUST RESERVE TICKETS ONLINE IN ADVANCE 🎟️

0-5 years tickets $5
6+ years tickets $20
Day of tickets (as available) $25

All tickets (even day-of) must be purchased online in advance. You must check in at least 15 minutes before your departure at the desk behind the Wharf. Latecomers will not be accommodated. Dress warmly and in layers. It can be chilly on the cove in March!

Tours are hosted by the Penn Cove Shellfish harvest team. Sunday is a harvest day, so tours on Sunday will see the team in action 💪

It’s Mussel Monday! 🧠 We’re celebrating 40 years of bold, briny & blue with Penn Cove Musselfest trivia!   You already know that the first Penn Cove Musselfest took place in 1986, but do you know where the magic happened?

❓❓❓  At the Captain Whidbey Inn! Musselfest was dreamed up as a collaboration between the Captain Whidbey and Penn Cove Shellfish as a way to draw up business during sleepy March in Coupeville. Over 40 years, it’s grown into the festival we know and love today! While Musselfest now takes place in downtown Coupeville, will still be there cooking up a storm for the Chowder Tasting Competition!
