Platero is from the Navajo Nation in the Southwest region of the United States. With his family band The Plateros they emerged on the music scene in 2004 as a blues rock power trio compared to the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Los Lonely Boys and ZZ Top. After a decade of touring the US with his family band, and a 1-year run as a member of Indigenous, Levi decided it was time to get back to his own music as a solo artist.

He then recruited a new band, began touring, and released a self titled EP featuring the single “Take Me Back” which went on to win the 2016 NAMA (Native American Music Award) for Best Blues. Levi Platero is a great example of a guitar player with the gift of guitar playing intuition of a much more experienced player. His quiet nature is unleashed in a style that mixes a spectrum of Texas blues and vintage rock to modern guitar heroes such as Eric Johnson and Steve Vai. With a captivating live show he ranges from flurries of guitar acrobatics all the way down to soulful expressiveness.

On the evening of Saturday, March 14, Alexandra Whittingham, classical guitarist, performed for a sold-out crowd at the Old San Ysidro Church in Corrales.

Her gorgeous and varied program included pieces by Fernando Sor, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and one of her favorite composers, Ralph Towner.

On Friday, she held a concert for our Music in School program at the ASK Academy in Rio Rancho, then travelled to play again at Cibola High School. That evening, she performed a special concert for the residents at The Neighborhood senior living facility.

Singer-songwriter Vance Gilbert brought his engaging repertoire of stories and songs to the Old San Ysidro Church on Saturday, February 7, ranging from American songbook standards like "Embraceable You" to a wistful farewell to Pluto after it lost its status as a full-fledged planet, closing with a heart-felt Irish a ca****la song about the grace of a homing pigeon returning to its trainer.

On Sunday afternoon, we welcomed back the Lysander Piano Trio to the Old San Ysidro Church. The trio first performed for our concert series in November 2016. The group was formed at The Juilliard School, and its name is inspired by the character in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

From Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to Rebecca Clarke and Antonín Dvořák, the concert was an emotionally charged and beautiful afternoon of incredible music.

On Thursday evening, December 18, at the Old San Ysidro Church, Music in Corrales presented Seraph Brass to another sold-out concert audience.

With the backdrop of a gorgeous holiday display created by the Corrales Historical Society, the all-female brass ensemble presented musical selections from the "Nutcracker" to Holberg Suite, Op. 40 by Edvard Grieg, “Sempre Libera” from La Traviata, and an encore with "Sleigh Ride," the familiar holiday favorite by Leroy Anderson.

The next day, Seraph Brass joined students at Taylor Middle School and Cibola High School to conduct master classes for the brass students as part of Music in Corrales's Music in Schools program.

In its 11th season, Seraph Brass was founded by trumpet soloist Mary Elizabeth Bowden with a mission to showcase the excellence of women brass players and highlight musicians from marginalized groups, both in personnel and in programming.

Thank you, Seraph Brass, for bringing your beautiful music to Corrales during the holiday season!

The Maxwell Quartet performed a superb, emotionally charged concert on Saturday, November 15, for a sold-out crowd at the Old San Ysidro Church. From Hyden to Scottish laments and reels, the Quartet delivered an evening of music that won't soon be forgotten. Straight from Carnegie Hall in NYC the evening before, Music in Corrales continues to be able to bring some of the best and brightest groups to perform for our audiences.

The Maxwell Quartet is highly regarded as one of Britain's finest young string quartets and is firmly rooted in its folk music heritage. The Quartet is formed of four close friends, who grew up playing folk and classical music together in youth orchestras and music schools across Scotland. The group officially began in 2010 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where its founding members met as postgraduate students. The quartet currently holds the position of Associate Artist at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and at Music at Paxton Festival in the Scottish Borders. In addition to a busy concert diary, the quartet is regularly featured in broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Scotland.
