We are excited to present the 2023 Dia de los Muertos Celebration on Saturday, October 28th from 3 pm to midnight. Now in its 16th year, the Dia de los Muertos Festival has grown to include ten city blocks. It has been listed as one of top Dia de los Muertos celebrations in Texas and the US. Dia de los Muertos Festival has been voted Best Festival in The Bend Magazine’s Local’s List eight years ru
nning (2016-2023). The Corpus Christi Dia de los Muertos Festival presents live entertainment on four stages: Latin-influenced rock & pop music, Mariachis, Ballet Folklorico and cultural dancers, youth performers and regional up-and-coming bands. The event also includes an Hecho a Mano Art Expo, Kids’ Activities, Ofrenda Display, art exhibitions and demonstrations, food, drinks and more. In addition, we partner with neighborhood businesses who offer additional entertainment and attractions. Our juried Hecho-a-Mano Art Expo features high quality fine arts and crafts, jewelry and Dia de los Muertos themed items by over 75 vendors. Students from TAMUCC and Del Mar College demonstrate various art processes, display architectural designs, and perform at the event. K Space Contemporary hosts fine art exhibitions by regional artists and youth piñata contest for area K-12 groups called Extravagancia de Piñatas. Prizes are awarded to competing K-12 groups for piñatas that receive the highest number of votes by the public. The Dia de los Muertos Youth Art Exhibition features works of art by young artists in grades 6 - 12 and is held at the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center at 2021 Agnes. Our Kids’ Corner includes crafts, games, a rock-climbing wall, entertainment by youth, and other fun activities for children. The beautiful Walk of Remembrance Ofrenda Display at the La Stanza Event Center is not to be missed! A traditional, spiritual component to the festival, altars are created by community members and youth groups. At the center is a large community ofrenda honoring beloved deceased Coastal Bend residents and an interactive area where visitors may remember and honor lost loved ones. In the month leading up to the festival, K Space Contemporary takes cultural workshops to our Outreach Program partners: CCISD, CC Senior Recreation Centers and other non-profit groups. The festival and workshops provide an opportunity for people to learn about this cultural tradition of Mexico, creating connections to our past, honoring and celebrating the deceased. The festival is held in downtown Corpus Christi on Chaparral, Starr, Mesquite, Taylor and Peoples Streets. Everyone is encouraged to wear a costume. Get your face painted, adorn your hair with floral headbands, shop, and enjoy delicious food at one of our 25 food vendors! Then, dance the night away at one of our festive music stages. Dia de los Muertos Street Festival is coordinated by K Space Contemporary, Electra Art*Axis Tattoo, with assistance from numerous partners and sponsors. Proceeds from the event benefit K Space Contemporary, a 501(C)3 non-profit arts organization. Event Schedule: October 28th, 3 pm to midnight
