Dear Friends,
As the founder and first Director of the Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA), I would like to share with you why I still passionately support CoSA, even though I retired in 2010.
Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA), the San Diego region's premiere performing arts conservatory, is now in its 18th year of serving the county's high school students who desire a specialized education in the arts. Located in the Coronado Unified School District, CoSA is a unique, public/private enterprise that provides students with direct access to career-training in one of its six arts-career conservatories. CoSA is supported partially by the school district as part of its special programming, but 60% of CoSA's financial support comes from private sources through the efforts of Coronado School of the Arts Foundation.
Why is private support for CoSA so important?
Since its inception in 1996, CoSA has served as an educational laboratory piloting innovative approaches to curriculum and instruction, staffing, and scheduling for high schools. A living model for effective education reform, CoSA is once again the 2013-14 Career Technical Arts Education Demon- stration Site for the California Department of Education.
Students immerse themselves in the arts through CoSA's four-year, sequential classes in a conservatory setting that include arts professionals who serve as teachers and guest artists;
instruction that mirrors the skills and requirements for high-level careers in the arts; instruction, practice, and support for the audition-process for higher-education in the arts; and student-
managed, creative projects that provide a safe "testing-ground" for the future artists of our planet.
CoSA’s alums are already making a difference, contributing their unique, creative energies to many arts schools, businesses, and industries. They are our country's future. They will be our cultural
story-tellers, technology innovators, designers, builders, choreographers, musicians, teachers and entre- preneurs. They will not only make art that reflects the culture of our society, but they will
manage, distribute, and invent creative technologies that the world has not yet imagined.
Your gift to the Coronado School of the Arts Foundation is an investment in the future of the arts. Please join me in generously giving to this worthy educational institution so students who are inspired by the arts can thrive. For your convenience, a donation envelope is enclosed; or you may
donate online at www.cosafoundation.org.
Your tax-deductible donation will help CoSA students follow their dreams.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
Sincerely,
Kris McClung
