Online Presenters Toastmasters club is hosting a series of webinar contest with participation from other clubs and speakers, with the first event scheduled for June 10. Visit the club website https://op.toastmost.org to learn how you can compete or support the event.

The webinar contest, which celebrates excellence in online speaking, was a feature of the last few VTM CON events and EVV CON (after the Powers That Be told us we had to change the name). There are no current plans for another EVV CON, but the webinar contest is one way of keeping the spirit of inter-club cooperation and competition alive for online and hybrid clubs.

Here is where you can register to see the webinar contest where six from around the world will compete to show they know how to make the most of a speech delivered online. Doors open at Monday at 7:15 pm EDT; contest starts at 7:45. The event is hosted by Online Presenters Toastmasters club, but all of the contestants will be invited guest speakers.

We held a similar contest at EVV CON in 2022 and VTM CON before that, but still haven't worked out anything with the Toastmasters brand and legal people to do a multi-club event under Toastmasters branding. So this is a workaround to keep the contest alive beyond our club.

The webinar contest is returning for 2023 in a slightly different format, hosted by Online Presenters Toastmasters - after the club's own contest on May 8, we're doing an "invitational" event where all the contestants will be guest speakers. So no "home field advantage," just an opportunity for those who have polished their online presentation skills to shine.

You may know Cat Mulvihill for her excellent YouTube tutorials on Zoom and other presentation tech (such as showing slides in a sidebar rather than letting them takeover the screen. But in this workshop she focused on the point of it all: making the personal connection, overcoming the barriers of tech and distance.

Cat was one of the people I was most excited about recruiting for the event, and she really delivered.
