Meet the LTC 2026 Director of Performance: Roshunda Jones-Koumba!
BIOGRAPHY: Roshunda Jones-Koumba is a Tony award-winning theatre educator and director, recognized as the 2022 Excellence in Theatre Education Award recipient presented by the Tony Awards and Carnegie Mellon University. A graduate of Prairie View A&M University with a B.A. in Theatre and a Master of Education in Administration, she has received numerous honors including Ebony Magazine’s Power 100, NFHS Outstanding Arts Educator, Stephen Schwartz Musical Theatre and Inspirational Theatre Teacher of the Year, and induction into the Texas Thespians Hall of Fame. A veteran educator of over 20 years in Aldine ISD, she has spent the majority of her career at George Washington Carver Magnet High School in Houston’s Acres Home community.
As the director of Carver’s Panther Players Troupe #6753, the troupe has been successful on the state and national level at the UIL One Act Play contest, Tommy Tune Awards, Texas Thespians State Festival and International Thespian Festival. She currently serves on the Texas Thespians Board, Chair of the UIL Theatre Advisory Committee, President of C. Lee Turner’s Black Theatre Educators’ Caucus, and is an active member of TxETA. In addition to her extensive work as an educator, she is a professional director and theatre consultant with acclaimed directing credits across Houston’s major theatres, and has been honored with proclamations from the Cities of Houston and Wharton for her community impact.
