Do you know a teen who dreams of flight? The Balloon Federation of America has announced dates for the 2026 Youth Balloon Camp in Cordele, GA, June 22-28, and Balloon Society of Kentucky has two SCHOLARSHIPS available for teens in our area wanting to attend. This is an unforgettable week where teens learn the science, safety, and magic of hot-air ballooning!
The BFA Basic Youth Balloon Camp is a program-oriented overnight camp targeted for youth ages 13–17 who want hands-on experience learning and flying balloons all in a fun geared summer camp experience. No experience needed — just curiosity and excitement! They will be mentored by FAA certified commercial pilots and staff who are focused on providing training and experiences in a safe environment. They will be working with various balloon systems including set-up, tethering and if weather permits, maybe even a flight. The focus will be to provide the campers with introductory level knowledge and skills to encourage them to expand their knowledge about hot air balloons and set them on a pathway to become crew members, educate them on how to become a pilot and encourage them to further participate in ballooning events and activities.
The BFA Basic Camp tuition covers all meals, housing, balloon activities, field trips and all the fun. Balloon camp is staffed by volunteers who are subject to background checks and trained to provide a safe and rewarding camp experience for all.
To apply for one of these scholarships, anyone interested should reach out to Scott Binzer at [email protected]. If approved to receive a scholarship, applicants will be responsible for a $100 non-refundable registration fee. All other fees and transportation to and from the camp will be covered by BSOK. Should more than two teens apply, applicants may be required to write an essay about why they should be chosen.
