A lovely day at the 1️⃣8️⃣8️⃣6️⃣ Stafford Opera House! 🏛️🎭

We were delighted to welcome Gema Barrera and her tour group from Tom S Ramsey, PE, Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner's Office to Columbus 🌳💕 for a visit and tour of our historic Opera House. It is always such a pleasure to share the stories, history, and beautiful details of this special building with new friends.

🎡 They asked, "Where is everyone?" We said, "It's Colorado County Fair weekend!"

We loved welcoming the activity group from First Baptist Church of El Campo to Columbus! ✨🏛️

Their day included a tour of the historic 1️⃣8️⃣8️⃣6️⃣ Stafford Opera House, followed by antiquing at Grand Oaks Antiques & Gifts and lunch at Nancy's Steakhouse! 🛍️🌳

We’re always grateful when visitors choose to spend the day discovering our history and enjoying the small-town charm that makes Columbus so special.

Join us Mondays from 5:00–8:00 PM for board games, dominoes, cards, Mahjong, you name it — grab your friends and drop in any time to play!

Construction upstairs didn’t phase the Galindo family! We were so happy to welcome nearly 2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ friends and family to the 1️⃣8️⃣8️⃣6️⃣ Stafford Opera House to celebrate Rudy and Irma. ¡Feliz aniversario! 💕🥂

🎅✨ A girls’ trip, a birthday celebration, and a little Christmas magic!

We loved welcoming Jessica Menefee and her sweet group of friends from Houston today! They came to celebrate Jessica’s birthday, enjoy a little Christmas cheer at Santa Museum Texas, and make a full weekend of it — including lunch at Hound Song Brewing Co. and dinner at Magnolia Society tonight. ❤️

✨ So many in the group also had special ties to Columbus, which made their visit even sweeter.

✨ Thank you to Kim Lyon and family for contributing a beautiful collection of Santa pieces, once lovingly belonging to their mother. 🎅❤️

"As a 'Christmas Baby', born December 21, 1938, Ann Earls Lyon’s love of Christmas began early. She collected Santas, Christmas villages and knitted Christmas stockings and sweaters for friends, family and even her UPS delivery man! Every year she held her annual 'Christmas Bear Luncheon' for friends and to collect stuffed bears to benefit the United States Marine Corp’s 'Toy’s for Tot’s' program. Her greatest gift was her love of family and time spent together, especially at Christmas."

🎄 We’ve only opened box one of two and already we’re discovering so many wonderful items! What a special addition to the museum as we gear up for our busy fall and winter season.

🏛️ Who deserves to be recognized for preserving Columbus’ history?

Nominations are now open for the 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣ Laura Ann Rau Historic Preservation Award, presented by the Columbus Historical Preservation Trust. Each year, we honor a local individual or preservation project that helps protect the history, character, and legacy of Columbus. 🌳✨

Do you know someone restoring a historic property, championing a local landmark, or quietly working to preserve our community’s story?

Nominate them. ❤️

📅 Nominations due: October 16, 2026
🏆 Award presented: October 26 at the Annual History Forum
💰 $500 cash honorarium

A big thank you to Texas Twelve Baseball & Softball for choosing the 1️⃣8️⃣8️⃣6️⃣ Stafford Opera House for their Coaches and Directors training! We so enjoyed having this great group in the building and loved seeing the Buddy Rau Room filled with learning and collaboration.
