Wood Keeps Rolling On Performance Bodies Night At CJ Speedway
By: Jerry Mackey
Columbus Junction, Iowa (May 8, 2026) – Performance Bodies of Cedar Falls hosted night number 3 of the Racing Season at the CJ Speedway on Friday night with another action packed night of racing.
The Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Cars continue to keep the fans on the edge of their seats with side by side thrilling racing action. The early part of the season has been dominated by Sigourney, Iowa driver Nathan Wood. In his new VB IMCA Stock Car, Wood scored his third consecutive feature win at the 4/10th mile dirt track on the Louisa County Fairgrounds.
The Friday night win certainly was not an easy one for Wood, after advancing from the third row and taking over the top spot with five laps scored it appeared as though Wood would be able to cruise on to the win, but 7th starting and first time visitor to the CJ Speedway, Jordan Miles drove his 4JR into the second spot and closed on Wood. As the field came to the white flag a caution bunched the field setting up a two lap dash to the finish. As the leaders raced off of turn four to the checkers to the checkers, Miles held the low line and was able to get inside of Wood, who held his line and scored the win by about three feet. Pat Rachels, who hails from North Carolina is back in the area racing for the weekend, Rachels had a fine run on Friday night taking third.
Second time visitor to the CJ Speedway, Spencer Diercks, drove his Stewart & Son Fuel IMCA Modified to a hard fought victory on Friday night. Diercks started deep in the field and steadily worked to the front taking the lead from race leader and defending Modified track Champion, Kurt Kile. A late race caution set up a mad dash to the finish, Kile drove his 77 into turn four coming to the checkers a little too hard and the tail of the 77 went around sending him in a spin that allowed Diercks to hold the lead and score the win. Brandon Banks was the benefactor of the Kile spin, and was able to cross the stripe in second.
The Dickinson Excavating & Hauling IMCA Sportmods main event win went to Tyler Heckart, who drove his #42 into the lead from his outside second row start. Heckart was able to race the high line of the smooth track that provided multiple lines on Friday night. Heckart took the win ahead of a trio of number 7’s. Justin Heuer ran second in the 7J, Trey Rock recovered from early issues in the feature to take third in his 7T, and Colton Laymon ran fourth in the 7.
The Weikert Appliance Sales & Service IMCA Hobby Stocks main event saw another first time visitor in 2026 score the win on Friday night. Garrison, Iowa driver Joren Fisher made a last lap pass of Garrett Porter for the win. The Hobby Stocks were also able to run anywhere on the track that was perfectly prepared, Fisher and Porter ran side by side the last lap with Fisher picking up the win by approximately a 1/2 car length.
Despite the cold wet spring that we have experienced the track crew at CJ Speedway have worked extremely hard when the weather has allowed and the hard work has shown in providing a great multiple grooved track that has produced great racing.
Friday, May 15th will see the only visit in 2026 of the high powered Late Models. The Karl’ s Kustoms Premier Late Model Series will be in action in addition to the four IMCA sanctioned classes. Hot laps will take to the CJ Speedway at 7 pm with racing to follow.
