We’re not hosting this year because we are opting to be famously safe, but we *are* recommending that you explore the great things to do in the Real Southern Hot Spot. In the winter months when the crowds are gone, Congaree National Park becomes a playground for those who relish the quietude of the largest intact expanse of old-growth bottomland forest in the Southeast. Whether a nice walk in the woods is your jam, or you’re into outdoor adventures like camping, kayaking and canoeing, Congaree is extra special, because it offers the shortest drive to a national park from any metropolitan area in the country — just a short, 20-minute hop from downtown Columbia, South Carolina.

The takeaway? You can be the town mouse and the country mouse, all in one day.

For December 2021, is opting to be famously safe. While the event will be on hiatus this year due to the pandemic, we encourage locals and visitors alike to make plans to enjoy all of the year-round amenities that the Columbia, S.C., region has to offer, from outdoor recreation to nationally-ranked attractions, walkable entertainment districts, charming hotels and an international, chef-driven restaurant scene.

As a freestanding nonprofit organization that is supported by a combination of private and public funds, we don’t take this decision lightly.
