Columbia Falls Union Hall - The Historic Town Hall Union Hall/The Historic Town Hall, Columbia Falls' centerpiece, is being restored into a beautiful community/events center. Follow our progress and events here

Union Hall, built in 1840 as a Union Church, was deeded to the Town in 1902 to be used as a community building to be known as the Union Hall. Over the years it has been known as both Union Hall and Town Hall. From 2003 to March 2016, the Restoration Committee has obtained $166,100 in grant funds that covered 61% of the costs to date, including the belfry restoration. Town raised funds have covered a third of the costs and over $16,000 has come from the committee’s fund-raising projects. The 2015 accomplishments include installing a stage curtain, a well and septic with grant funds from Morton Kelly Charitable Trust, Davis Family Foundation and Belvedere Fund/Maine Community Foundation. Future projects include improving the handicap ramp, furnishing the kitchen, tables & chairs, exterior painting, additional stage curtains.

It was a beautiful day in Columbia Falls today! Black Bear Crane and The Steeple People removed the steeple/weathervane, bell tower, and bell from Union Hall as part of Phase One of the Steeple restoration project. Funding provided for this project granted through the Maine Steeple Fund, town raised funds, and community raised donations. Phase Two will weatherproof the bell deck. Throughout the 2026/2027 years we will continue to raise funds to restore and replace the bell, tower, and Steeple back up on Union Hall. Thank you to all who have made this possible and for the support today.

For Immediate Release

The Union Hall Committee and the Town of Columbia Falls are pleased to announce that we have received a $60,000 grant from the Maine Steeple Fund which allows us to begin phase one of our 4 phase steeple restoration project. This grant needs a 1:1 match and we are actively seeking donations and grants for the entire project. We have hired Belden Morse of the Steeple People to be our contractor.

From the Maine Steeples Fund website, “The Maine Steeples Fund was established to support local efforts to restore church steeples of historic, cultural, and community significance in small cities and towns in Maine. It offers Assessment Grants and Restoration Grants. Since 2007 we have provided financial assistance for the restoration of over 75 Maine steeples.” It is an honor to receive a restoration grant for Union Hall from the Maine Steeples Fund.

There will be a public presentation of these restoration efforts and what's to come along with a community potluck at Union Hall on Friday, September 18th at 5:30pm-7:30pm. Union Hall is located at 170 Main Street, Columbia Falls. Please join us in hearing about this wonderful project to restore our only town building into a vibrant community space.
