You start with a rough rock and a vision. Then the stone spends the next three hours reminding you that it has opinions too.
This was my final project in lapidary class with turning a rough chunk of stone into a gemstone by hand. Every step in this video is sped up 5x, but the reality was a lot less glamorous—3 hours of noise, water, patience, and learning not to grind away the parts I wanted to keep - like my fingers!
As an artist, I'm used to adding layers. Lapidary has taught me the opposite: sometimes the beauty is already there, hidden inside the rock, and your job is simply to reveal it.
Still very much a beginner, but pretty proud of this Spotted fawnstone gem from . ✨
