As an author or publisher, we know you are seeking exposure for your new book, and the way to do that is booking TV, radio and internet interviews. The reality is there are only so many platforms available for interviews. It’s a crowded field out there. So, the question is, what makes you stand out in the crowd? What will get the attention of radio producers and bookers in the least amount of time?
As a former Director of Broadcast for Dr. James Dobson, I received many email requests from authors and publishers to get booked for an interview. But what I receive is usually just a summary sheet. This sheet doesn’t allow me to see or hear the personality of the author. I would have to dig much deeper if I wanted to vet out their book, personality, and brand story. I only have a very short amount of time to investigate the pitch I receive, so that pitch MUST stand out to me initially.
I would look to see in the pitch if these questions have been answered:
1) What is the content of their book, their bio, their brand story?
2) What does the author sound like in an interview?
3) Is the author engaging/passionate enough to grab the listeners attention?
