Due to the unique circumstances presented by Covid-19, this year’s OperaTerps production has been reimagined as a completely original opera for the virtual stage!

Can You Keep A Secret?, a murder mystery, is an original opera featuring arias and art songs written by a wide variety of female, LGBTQ, and BIPOC composers and librettists. The cast, featuring 12 UMD undergraduate vocalists and 2 OperaTerps alumni, has been hard at work rehearsing and filming over Zoom during the month of January and we cannot wait to bring this virtual opera to you in late February! But in order to do so, we need your help!

The usual funding for student organizations was not offered this year so we are asking for your assistance to help us cover the costs of our fabulous pianist and audio/video engineer. We would love to have you partner with us in bringing this amazing show to life!

Happy February! Every other day throughout this month, we will introduce you to a character in our Murder Mystery Opera “Can You Keep A Secret?” 🎬

Meet Count Crown, an international businessman and the head of the Crown family. On the night of his daughter’s wedding, he was murdered! Count Crown is played by an OperaTerps alumni, , a baritone pursuing his MM in vocal performance at UMD.

Our cast members, directors and editors are working hard to finish the filming and editing process, and the final result will come out this month! 🥳🎉

“Can You Keep A Secret?” Is an original opera featuring arias and art songs by a wide variety of female, LGBTQ, and BIOPC composers and librettos. In the month of February we will introduce you to our opera characters and creative team! In addition, we will highlight most of our 20(!) composers!
