Dear Friend,
Twenty-three years ago, the unimaginable happened. My son Justin lost his battle with a Glioblastoma Multiforme in his Brainstem. This beautiful active little boy underwent brain surgery, hyperfractionated radiation, and cyclic chemotherapy for over a year till the tumor began to grow rapidly in early 1997. Over the next six months, Justin faced losing his mobility, the use of his arms, his ability to move his head, to speak or even swallow. Justin faced everything with a smile as long as he had the muscle control to do so. On Labor Day Weekend 1997 Justin’s angels called for him.
Thus, each Saturday before Labor Day, Justin’s Walk is held to increase awareness and raise funding for research into the cause and cure of brain tumors through the American Brain Tumor Association. Over the years we have been blessed to establish a research grant in Justin’s memory.
Although not able to physically walk this year due to Covid-19 restraints, Justin’s Train for the Brain will not be stopped. Please walk with family and friends and send photos to [email protected] to be posted on Justin’s Walk page.
I will be in front of Justin’s Caboose on Saturday, September 5th from 9-11AM with T-shirts for those with donations of $100, or if you choose to mail in donations your shirt will be waiting for you at next year’s walk. We will also recognize the team raising the most contribution at the beginning of next year’s walk.
Unfortunately, many events have been cancelled this year, so the need is even greater than normal to help children facing this cruel disease. Your donation can make a difference so please join Justin’s Train for the Brain again this year!
Truly-Blessed-to-be Justin’s Mom,
Gina Porter
