Get to know our Interim Director.

Kipper Ackerman, a native of Dalzell, South Carolina, holds a Master of Music Education degree from North Greenville University and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Presbyterian College, where she focused on vocal and piano performance.

A professional musician for over 25 years, directing choirs in churches and private and public schools, Kipper currently works as the Director of Music and Communications at the Church of the Holy Comforter in Sumter, South Carolina. She is also the director of The Sounds of Grace, a non-profit organization that uses music to promote peace and healing in healthcare and hospice facilities and special needs classrooms.

Kipper plays the harp for people in assisted living facilities and hospitals. She cherishes the time when she plays her harp at the bedside of someone who is about to enter into Heaven.

Ackerman has loved the opportunity to perform on stage at the Sumter Little Theater and hopes to work with the Laurens County Community Theater soon. Some of the roles she has played recently include Oklahoma (Ado Annie), The Music Man (Mrs. Paroo), Fidler on the Roof (Golda), and Mamma Mia (Donna). She was also the musical director for Forever Plaid and performed in a Rodgers and Hammerstein review titled Some Enchanted Evening.

She has recently accepted a position at Presbyterian College as the Director of Choral Activities and Visual and Performing Arts Liaison for Enrollment and will be taking the PC Choir, community members of Clinton and Sumter, and several PC Alumni to NYC where she will be directing them and other choral ensembles in a performance of John Rutter's “Te Deum” and “Gloria” at Carnegie Hall on June 1st, 2025.

Ackerman is married to Curt Ackerman and they have three wonderful children, Eliza, Laura Ruth, and Sam.

Ackerman says that it is a true honor to have been asked to serve as Interim Director of the Laurens County Chorale and looks forward to getting to know this wonderful community more.
