Summary of the Senior Amateur Golf Tour Upstate NY tournament at Waubeeka Golf Links.
Sunday, August 24, 2025. Very enjoyable day weather wise. 75 degrees with a little wind and a lot of cloud cover which made it very comfortable. We happened to be playing on the same day as the club championship at Waubeeka so we were subjected to challenging pin placements. The greens were rolling fast but if you have never played there before, a lot of undulations. If you ever play a tournament there, it would be worth a practice round.

B Flight – James MacKinnon posted a 40 on the front nine and never looked back. Posting a 37 on the back, only 2 bogies, had him running away with the B flight. His round of 77 earned him a $60 gift card for the win.

C Flight – Neil Sergott posted a 43 on the front nine and took a 6-stroke lead over the field into the back nine. Tony Arroyo and Don Frame both put up 44’s on the back but it wasn’t enough to overtake Neil. Neil’s total of 89, four strokes ahead of the field earned him a $120 gift card for the win.

D Flight – Adam Miller posted a 44 on the front giving him a 4 stroke lead over Jack Gentileis what made the difference in the day. Jack put up a 49, one stroke better than Adam on the back, but Adam hung on for a three-stroke win posting a 94. Adam picked up a $80 gift card for the win.

Skins – Total of four skins were posted. James MacKinnon, Tony Arroyo, Jack Gentile and Francis Rielly each had a skin worth $50 each.

Polies – the only one was posted by James MacKinnon who was the big winner for the day. The polie netted him $100.

The winners from the tournament.

Summary of Pinehaven on August 18, 2025
With much of the summer being hot and humid we really lucked out in what turned out to be one of the best days of the year for golf. About 75 degrees, no humidity and nice breeze which sometimes came into play. If you have never played there, the course is in great shape. A lot of elevated greens that were tough to hold unless you were close enough to get the ball up in air. Greens rolled true and were pretty quick. I would highly recommend anyone to play this course if you can. It’s a private course for members only or tournaments.
We all struggled at times but here are the winners.

B Flight – After 7 holes on the front 9 James MacKinnon and Mike Scott were tied, but James’ pars on 8 & 9 left him with a one stroke lead over Mike. On the second nine, they again, played even with each other until James’ pars on 17 & 18 wrapped it up for him. James finished with an 86 to best Mike by 3 strokes. James won an $80 gift card for his win.

C Flight – Was never really a contest as Jeremy Hayes posted a 40 on the front, leading by 7 after nine. Despite Don Frame’s efforts, he could only close the gap to 6 strokes even with a birdie on 15. Jeremy, in his first tournament with the Senior Amateur Tour Upstate NY finished with an 86. He was playing as a guest so his winnings of $80 will be posted as his tour registration fee.

D Flight – Fran Rielly was just too much for Orlando visitor Bill Evertz, posting a 95 to win by 6 strokes over Bill. That was Frans 4 win of the season. He received a $60 gift card for his win.

Skins - Only one skin for the day, posted by Don Frame, getting a birdie on the 15th. He received $140 for the single skin.

Greenie – Only one greenie for the day, posted by Fran Rielly on the 9th hole. He received $70 for the single greenie.

Francis Rielly - D Flight (on the left), Jeremy Hayes C Flight (top right) and James MacKinnon (bottom right).

Summary of the Senior Amateur Golf Tournament in Upstate NY.

This week we played at Queensbury Country Club in Queensbury, NY. The weather was perfect. Sunny and in the 80’s and just enough wind to make it pleasant.

B Flight – Paulot Truchard posted a front nine 45, one stroke ahead of Phillip Gallant. But Paulot’s steady back nine was the difference as he put up a 40 on the back. Just one double and the rest pars and bogies. He finished with an 85. He collected a $60 gift card for his win.

C Flight – This was the most interesting and close match of the day. A three way tie at 45 on the front between Tom Welch, Tony Arroyo and Don Frame created an interesting back nine. Tom came out on the back, scoring two pars on the first three holes that’s all it took for him to post a 42 against Tony’s 43 and Don’s 45. Tom held on with a one stroke win with an 87. He collected a $60 gift for his win.

D Flight – This flight was never in doubt. Ron Paradiso came out on fire posting 6 pars and three bogies for a front nine 39. (The best of the day in any flight). With just bogie golf on the back he ran away with the win posting an 82. He collected a $60 Gift card for his win.

Skins winners – Only two skin on the day both coming out of the D Flight. Jack Gentile and Francis Rielly each got one worth $90 each.

Polie winners - We had a $110 polie carryover. No polies were recorded so we defaulted to greenies (on a par three in one and making the par) There were five greenies. Two by Paulot Truchard in the B Flight, two by Tom Welch in the C flight and one by Jack Gentile in the D flight.

Great job and hope to see everyone next week on
Monday, August 18th at Pinehaven Country Club.

Recap from the Northway 8 Golf Center Mid-season two day at Orchard Creek Golf Club and Van Patten Golf Club, July 26 & 27, 2025

A Flight – Even though he was the only A Flight player, David Kokes turned in two superb performances. First at Orchard Creek on Saturday with just one birdie but a steady 5 over 76. Then on Sunday at Van Patten with a 5 over 77. With a birdie on the 3rd hole, (the number one handicap hole) and an eagle on the real tough par five 9th knocking in the third shot from about 120 yards away. David collected an $80 gift card for his win.
B Flight – Phil Gallant took the first day honors (9 over 80) at Orchard Creek with a one stroke lead over Brett Varney (81) and three strokes over James MacKinnon (83). Several guys got skins with Phil being the big winner with the only polie ($120) and two skins ($20 each).
The second day at Van Patten turned into quite the race. Phil struggled but James turned in a great performance with a 6 over 78 but couldn’t overtake Brett who was steady all weekend turning in a 79 to win by one stroke over James. Brett got a $200 gift card for his win.
C Flight – Don Frame tried to make it close, but Ron Ruschak, playing steady all weekend, ran away with the C flight turning in a 90 at Orchard Creek and an 83 at VanPatten to win by 10 strokes. Ron got a $120 gift card for his win.
D Flight – The first day effort at Orchard Creek for Fran Rielly (88) proved too much for Orlando visitor Bill Evertz (90). They played the second day at Van Patten to a 91-91 tie and Fran’s first day was the difference for a 2 stoke win over Bill. Recap of the latest Tournament at Turning Stone Resort Shenandoah course.
B Flight- James MacKinnon and Mike Scott both came out with a 44 on the front. But James' two birdies on 10 and 16 secured his 4 over on the back despite Mikes birdie effort on the 18th to close to within 1 stroke. James finished with an 84.
C Flight- Tony Arroyo came out of the gate strong posting an 8 over 44, two strokes ahead of Neil Sergott. But he couldn't hold off the late charge from Neil Sergott who posted 4 pars on the back to finish with an 88.
D Flight- Ron Paradiso posted a 44 on the front to take a two-stroke lead with Francis Rielly and Orlando visitor, Bill Evertz at 46.
As Ron struggled on the back, Francis and Bill had a great back and forth battle going. Tied after 17 holes Francis managed to be one stroke better on the 18th to post an 89.
