The St. Malachi Church Run/Walk joins Cleveland’s Irish community in mourning the loss of William “Bill” Homan.
Bill was a proud member of the Bluestone Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, whose members have long been wonderful friends and supporters of the Malachi Run and the ministries of St. Malachi.
If you’ve joined us on race day, you’ve seen our Hibernian friends in action. The Bluestone Hibernians are our Confetti Captains at the starting line, sending thousands of runners and walkers off in true Irish style, while the lady Hibernians, Deirfíur of Charity staff one of our water stops along the course. ☘️
Their service to St. Malachi extends well beyond race day. The Hibernians regularly take their turn serving our neighbors at St. Malachi’s Saturday Morning Breakfast. Bill’s wife, Pat, Vice President of the Deirfiur of Charity Division, is a faithful volunteer at the breakfast, and their daughter Erin is also a member of our Hibernian family.
We extend our love, prayers and deepest sympathy to Pat, Erin and the entire Homan family, as well as to Bill’s many Hibernian brothers and friends throughout Cleveland’s Irish community.
We are grateful for Bill’s life of service and for the friendship and generosity the Hibernians continue to share with the St. Malachi community.
May Bill rest in eternal peace. ☘️
☘️ REMEMBERING BILL HOMAN ☘️
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of William “Bill” Homan, a Charter Member, Past President, and treasured part of the history of the Irish American Club East Side.
Bill’s legacy is woven into the very foundation of our Club. As Charter Member #10, he was among those who helped establish the IACES and served as President from 1980–1982. Bill also played an instrumental role in helping the Club secure its permanent home — the same place our members have gathered, celebrated, and kept our Irish heritage alive for 48 years.
Throughout the years, Bill continued to serve the IACES in numerous board positions, chaired countless committees and events, and remained a dedicated supporter of the Padraic Pearse Center and Cleveland’s greater Irish community.
His commitment to his Irish heritage reached far beyond our Club. Bill was honored as Lake County Irishman of the Year in 1988, IACES Member of the Year in 1999, and served as Grand Marshal of Cleveland’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 2019.
But titles and honors tell only part of Bill’s story. His true legacy can be found in the community he helped create, the friendships formed within these walls, and the generations of members who continue to enjoy the Club he worked so hard to build.
Our hearts are especially with Bill’s wife, Pat; his children, Heather, John and Erin; his daughter-in-law, Marcella; and his grandchildren, Isabella, Louisa and Declan, along with his extended family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Bill.
We invite our members and friends to share their favorite memories, stories, and photos of Bill in the comments as we celebrate a life that meant so much to our Club and Cleveland’s Irish community. ☘️
Thank you, Bill, for helping give the Irish American Club East Side a place to call home. Your legacy will live on here for generations to come. ☘️
Service information will be shared in the comments below.
