Drama Guild Reading
Thursday, October 15th 6:00pm-9:00pm

our monthly play reading!

The Drama Guild, one of the Hermit Club's core artistic programs, is a group of actors, readers and theatre fans who meet once a month for a casual, script-in-hand reading of a classic theatrical work.

This month, the Guild invites you to participate in an evening of dramatic readings of radio broadcasts from the 1940's and 1950's. Attendees can pick up a script and read an assigned role out loud or you can just grab a drink and sit back and listen! Actors and audience members alike are encouraged to attend.

Join us to celebrate the music of legendary American jazz pianist and composer Horace Silver.

Few artists in history have been more influential in shaping mainstream jazz music than Horace Silver. Known for injecting funky, bluesy, soul-oriented fabric into his compositions, Silver moved jazz back into the toe-tapping, swinging structure that landed him the longest-running recording contract ever at the fabled Blue Note recording label. He was a founding member of the Jazz Messengers and his compositions spanned the Hard Bop era of the 1950's. Silver's soul-infused music has become part of the standard jazz repertoire for musicians worldwide for decades and he has 36 studio albums to his credit.

To bring this swinging music to life, The Swingbone Jazz Ensemble boasts a three-piece horn section, a four-piece rhythm section and features the sensational vocal stylings of Mike Cady.

Cady, a native Detroiter who now calls Cleveland home, has dazzled his audiences with his engaging, confident vocal style. He has been influenced by and compared to Eddie Jefferson and Teddy Harris, Jr. Cady has performed his electrifying night club act in such places such as Baker's Keyboard Lounge (the oldest remaining jazz club in the world), concert halls, and jazz and blues festivals in major cities including Miami, Chicago and Detroit.

Don't miss this power-packed show at the Hermit Club!

Performance begins at 7:30pm

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the American republic, The Drama Guild at The Hermit Club, together with The Tavern Club and The Rowfant Club, presents We Hold These Truths: A Revolutionary War of Words, a 50-minute dramatic performance by Actors Summit Productions.

Long before muskets fired at Lexington and Concord, the American Revolution was fought in the realm of ideas, arguments, and powerful prose. We Hold These Truths brings that bmmaattle to life through stirring readings by a quartet of professional actors, giving voice to the debates, petitions, and declarations that shaped a new nation.

We Hold These Truths is more than a history lesson—it’s a vivid exploration of the words that forged America. Through the voices of the past, audiences will experience the tension between loyalty and liberty, the clash of radical and conservative visions, and the moral contradictions that continue to echo today. Whether you are a student, a history enthusiast, or simply curious about the origins of American identity, this event offers insight, inspiration, and a renewed appreciation for the power of words.
